Anguish of a nation

THANK YOU TO ALL FOR
YOUR WONDERFUL COMMENTS
I AM GLAD THAT THIS POEM,
STIRRED A GOOD CONVERSATION!!

The sound of anguish is set
free in a desert, never to be
heard.

The sea closes all escape,
the waves are unchained and
come like torrential rain.

The destiny and origin of the
multitude are placed under a
sentence.

Lost in a desert of solitude
they take refuge from their
death sentence,

Like innocent lambs,
that  tradition inspires to
faith.

the laws of reason are burnt
in a sacrifice eternal.

Tumbling and turning looking
for their existence in the waves
of necessity.

They feel the escape of a final
breath, it is the soul opening
it's resting place.

Why, they scream!! Why have
you thrown dirt in our faces.

The spirit that was lost is
embraced by the storm and
lifted.

In the multitude there is still a
spark of regeneration found in
a concert of faith,

somewhere near openness and
happiness that which regenerates
the very soul.

Hope on hope, they plead for the
rebirth of a once powerful nation

You think? I’d like to

You think? I'd like to think so.... refuge....not refuse, Mr. Cruz ... some tightening...too. example: the sound of anguish is set free in a desert, never to be heard.... Just some hints...with love. ~A

Can't say I disagree my friend

Welcome to the socialist era of the USA starting Novenber 4. Preview started 2006. All things aside, pretty well written here Eddie. I like the form and thought it flowed well and agreed with Anna's corrections. Well done Eddie! Respectfully, Rett: "We can all be thankful that Picasso wasn't a plastic surgeon." Rett

mmm history speaks loudly,

some nations achieve greatness, some steal it by force and disease. All loose it in the end, deservedly, when they lose, or rather, fail to gain, humility. Moved by your plea, but not enough to regret the passing of rapaciousness and exploitation. Hey I could write a multipage diatribe, but just presenting the view of the exploited, subverted and betrayed. Oh, and the verse was a tad melodramatic and turgid. cheers, Jess

Jess,

The melodrama is where I was going, because it's the only way to look at the ridiculous things that have happen in the last decade, but do the people deserve it. Thank you, Eddie

"a tad melodramatic..." - be that as it may, there are quite a number of despondant people running around screaming "oh shit!" People's money that took them 10 years to accrue, have it disappear within days - hours, even. Last time this happened in 2002/3 with the dot-com slide, my 401k literally shit $1,300 in a few hours. When you only have $10,000 or so in there to begin with $1,300 is a lot! It's possible to prepare for these type situations, but impossible to predict when they will happen. Our stock market was artificially inflated to over 14000 - it had to all come crashing down at some point. It wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when. In a few years, it'll rebound back up again. It might never see 14000 again, but it'll get back up above 11 or 12k - and those who bought while the market was low, will be able to catch the wave back up. Unfortunately, our country isn't going through a one-or-the-other type deal - we're in the midst of a stagflation. That is, prices are high, our money is worth less, and we're in an occilation phase with the market - and we're stagnate economically (no one is buying shit) anyway.... I think Eddie was trying to write through the eyes of these people that are truly fucked and have no options. And I think he did rather well. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"It is better to be thought of a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt..." - Mark Twain

yes certainly,

I wasn't looking at it in light of the current financial crisis. Saw it in a larger historical context. cheers, Jess

Ah Jess,

When you put it that way, I can see where you were going, yes the bigger picture. I wanted to bring out the current picture< but thanks for your Comment, well thought out in that view. Eddie

thanks Eduardo,

I am in the habit of teasing you at the moment. I tease in two different ways. Some people are smug and complacent in their beliefs and I tease them cruelly. In some I see great potential that could use some teasing to expand themselves. You are in the latter category. Ask Rett. I always got a reason for what I say, no matter how outrageous. cheers, Jess

Jess,

I told you before I don't take any thing personal, I felt that the game was afoot. You playing Mac and me the traditional. I was enjoying myself with some of your comments. Remember I'm the original "fsst Eddie", so tease on brother, thank's Eddie

Liar.

If you don't take it personally why do you respond with personal slurs ( not here but elsewhere)? Respond to the comments, not with childish name calling. cheers, Jess

Ahhh the visionary…

Ahhh the visionary... However, looking at things in a greater context improves the present as it already is moving into the future. Perhaps it is a lesson for all if one *pays attention* (not cheap by any means) you take away the common man's earnings and therefore buying power, the shit hits the fan for everyone, imo. Good poem to view in 5 years... or perhaps less. ~A

Anna,

The future is moving so fast that it seems at times like yesterday for the little guy, and that's all I was trying to bring out, this is about right now, and how it will affect the little guy tomorrow. The little guy never worries about yesterday that he never had control over. this is why I wrote this line; Like innocent lambs, that tradition inspires to faith. Like the lambs that are lead to their slaughter, because they believe that their master will take care of them. thanks Anna I really appreciate your thoughts Eddie

Hi Eddie...

I too read your piece and thought of the big picture, I didn't connect it to the on-going crisis in our financial institution either, until I read the comments... and then I see it can be read either way.... and either way it is a good write.... and I thank you for sharing your poem with us... you've received some very good comments which cause one to think.... That was a little guy who was born at the right time and took advantage of his situation, but not everybody can be so lucky! Some just always step in shit no matter what they do. they can work as hard as they can, but they will only scrap up a live, and I for one appauled those guys and gals. thanks Janice I did like Ross Perot.
