Being grateful...

He looked at the shining moon,

he looked at the sparkling stars,

and he looked at the spectacular starlit sky.

He felt, he sensed

the magical, mystical atmosphere.

It enchanted him,

it gave him joy,

it made his heart beat faster,

he felt an enormous satisfaction.

He was thankful for all

of nature’s beauty he enjoyed.

All the immense pleasure

and the glorious delight it gave him.

But he was grateful of many other things…

The wonderful health he enjoyed.

His faithful wife who had stood

by his side for over thirty years now.

The steady, successful job he held.

The two wonderful children

who were now following

their own successful careers.

He was also grateful of enjoying

the satisfaction of helping

younger students make it to College

or Graduate School.

He was grateful of being so happy

and particularly for not desiring

or craving for anything else in his life.

He had everything he wanted in life,

He was grateful, really grateful.

This reads like a prayer

And that's not bad, as all my prayers are prayers of thanks. However, for poetry, I would want there to be some point above noting thanks by noting that for which you are thankful. You have a lot of lines that are complimentary to people and highlight activities, yet they are merely stated rather than seared into the mind of the reader. Since I am presumptuous, as always, I'll break out one section and show you what I mean: ------------------------- The two wonderful children, Who, it seems, Just moments ago Where bright-eyed puzzles Thirsting for life and love Scrambling for knowledge and attention and now they are pursuing their own success in life in love in wisdom. ------------------------- What I've tried to do it to make things general enough so that every parent of an adult child can relate and every adult child can as well. I also wanted to establish, beyond mere recital, why the two children were so important and such a joy. You have got a great foundation here and this could be a work that would bring tears to the eyes of just about anyone who read it but you need to fill it with more heart and soul. The mind is their, the acknowledgement of why you are so blessed and appreciative, now take it from a simple statement into poetry. --Jonathan Annoying the world, one person at a time (Group discounts available)
