The Halves of Cannine Seperate

in 82' when i was young

i had a pet that i didnt pay

attention to

So my father told me all in

all it would be better if he

gave him away

he went to a man that loved

his dogs Not some wayward

young adult as I  though

we had our days this dog

and i  of sitting on his rock

and he on his chain

when nights restless would

keep me awake he would

step from his little house

and sit with me

he broke away from this

new fine home and visited

the chicken man  half a

mile away

and the chicken man

protected his chickens

with his double birdshot

shotgun at close range

and so it was that i was

there in the sunny sunlight

of a day dumping out the

trash of our house and home

when i saw a sight that made

me groan

there in the trash like a hunk

of junk was the black and white

end of my dear old dog

(just the back end)

I searched and I searched

but I never found

the favourite face of a once

loved hound

(the chicken man was just

doing his job)
