Tiptoe through the warming

The toes

of Michelangelo's David

are musculinely strong,

second toe a touch longer

than the big toe

as befits a gifted man.

This is how I walk the earth -

in Michelangelo's toes,

gripping the soil

just hard enough

to keep it steadily waltzing

around the sun

in its Gallilean galleon.

My toes tread carefully

among the growing leaves of grass

and upward glancing, jogging centipedes;

carefully on this oblate earth

with all our growing growing woes

to keep my footprint small

I walk on my toes.

an easy tread

i am very impressed with the attention to detail and the centipedes no less ; ) do you mean to keep them small for the sake of deception or for a need of protection? i dont mean to suggest a coward’s behavior but Achilles was a proud man. strength in weakness my friend…or at least that’s what they say ; P great write poet!!! <3 Emarie

Hello Mike "A toehold of any kind takes us mile-high" - a poetic statement of some distinction in itself :) Thanks for your kind comments. De Waal

it seems

as a beautiful yet dangerous walk no tulips but rather ugly little creatures with so many "grabbing" legs. "Get those muts away from me" I never knew me a gifted man (now the secret is out lol) Mark

Look at your hand

Hi Mark Yes, there seems to be serious thinking among scientists that one's body plan can indicate individual characteristics. There was a recent article in New Scientist that had quite a bit to say about the relative lengths of the index and ring fingers. Have a look at yours. Deep secrets will be revealed! De Waal

Yes it is strange to look at the palm and

see small fingers. I never understood my percussion professor talking about my long fingers until I turned my hand and bent my fingers down ninety degrees and wow! He was right ! Funny thing after I realized I had these long fingers my skills improved. Mark

It's in the relative length

The theory is that if your index finger is much shorter than your ring finger, you are a more aggressive type of person. Depends on the testosterone distribution you received in the womb.

Hi Mark I’m using this

Hi Mark I'm using this photo to go with the 1950 poem. It's a shot taken with a box camera in 1949 of me and my younger brother. :) De Waal
