village offers

 

 

when the tongues and lips were cut away from their

bodies      where is your jesus

your god

blood flowing rich vibrant pain

unspoken prayers still muttered

through red teeth

warriors putting these speakers of

the book through their trials

 

they were brave

they were strong

they were flesh

and blood

 

speaking a new voice

to an old established

way

350 years ago

yes there were eight jesuit missonaries who where martyred by natives at the site of a fort and mission there is a great Movie called BLACK ROBE its quite old played by the same actor who starred in JESUS OF MONTREAL i believe my mind is cobwebby from that period but i could be close the movie BlACK ROBE was amazing i thought my daughter has been to the mission and shrine on a local hill its a historic site of course very scenic area of Ontario quite beautiful

In my estimation

missionaries have done more harm than good through the destruction of cultures and spreading of disease. Don't envy their death, neither would I blame the locals, but I bet there were nasty repercussions. You brought an incident hideous in all aspects back to life as both sides should be remembered. cheers, Jess
