Finding Ourselves, By Losing Ourselves (In Movies and In Math)

Finding ourselves
By losing ourselves
In movies & in math
Isolating our variables
& cutting the lights in half

As we set ourselves in obscurity
We start to burn as we watch others shine
& only figure out what we're equal to
As we lose all to the other side
Of the equal sign

Finding ourselves
By losing ourselves
In movies and in math
Determining types of characters
And plotting data on charts and graphs

As each new story shows
The same old themes and threads
We're betrayed but still blessed by design
And as the ones we love
Become numbers instead
The conversion is callous and kind
Cause of what we find

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?

This is a song I wrote a number of years ago. You can listen to it, here: https://soundcloud.com/gregwa8/finding-ourselves-by-losing-ourselves.
