Young black girl your mama has you dressed up all in pink, one day you'll be powerful, walking down the street in your mink. Young black girl so beautiful with your braids and beads or ponytail with barrettes, keep your head up, one day you'll be in a magazine like Ebony, Essence, or Jet. Oh, you'll stop the show and every head will look. That girl is fierce they'll say. She's now writing her fifth book. And they'll question your drive and your passion for success. They'll whisper as you walk by admiring the diamonds adorned on your dress. She's put together so well, from where did she come? With that gleam in her eye and a song in her heart. You look at me now but where was I then. You focus on my end but how did I begin? You want to know my story, yes I will tell.  My mother's a crack head and my father's in jail. What did he do you may wonder, he killed my uncle now six feet under. Why? do you say, well if you must know, at the age of nine, innocent, sweet, and even flat chested, My uncle took me in a room where I was molested. This went on for a while, my aunt lives in denial. My mom too drugged up, my dad fast asleep, I sat in my bed and began to weep. So when I told my dad he was more than mad. He loaded up the gun and went upstairs, pushing open doors and throwing chairs. My uncle knew and he tried to run but he wasn't as fast as the barrel of the gun. As I heard the click of the chamber I felt so much anger and i didn't want him to die, I started to cry. My life is sad, my mom's high and I have no dad. So, at thirteen I'm alone going from home to home. I look for a man to be my escape, I'll give him sex, I've already been raped. What's the worse that can happen to me, maybe I'll wind up dead? Well i died when my uncle laid me in that bed. Enough about me, I Met this guy,he's got a car, a home, and he's thirty three. So what, you  know, I don't care. Anything i need he'll do it, he's always there. He sells drugs and has girls but I'm his main one, this life is good, it's even kind of fun. I saw a few people get killed though, his crack I started to smoke. Now I'm fifteen in an alley getting choked. As I black out I say Lord, this is fine, let him take me I could die right now. Visions I began to see of  a better life, a better me. In fine clothes drinking fine wine. The inner peace I had no one could take that, now that was all mine. They took my virginity, they took my innocence, they took my hope of a brighter day but I cannot say that... He stopped choking me that night. I left that alleyway, I got my GED and went on to college. Put away the pain and replaced it with knowledge. Now, I am a journalist and  writer, hoping that someone by my story may be inspired. As I am going forward and doing great things I remember the day God saved me from my troubles and carried me in His wings.
