Please help my failing memory.

Forums:

I can remember from my high school English class liking a wonderful poem spoofing the commercial work of newspaper poet Edgar Guest. All I can remember about the poem was that it ended with the line "including Eddie Guest."

Google has been unable to help me with the sparse information I've provided. Does this ring any bells with any of the Neopoet members?

Thanks.

Jerry

no

Just a quick word the bits you are looking for are as follows I think..
Get back to me if this is the right one Yours Ian.T

Edgar Guest.
"including Eddie Guest."

The poem Home by Edgar A. Guest, it has a parody of that poem by Louis Untermeyer with the verse:

And, oh, how sweet his life will seem,
with nought to make him cross;
And he will never watch the clock
and always mind the boss.
And when he thinks
(as may occur),
this thought will please him best:
That ninety million think the same--
including Eddie Guest.

.
There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

Thanks Ian, that was it exactly. I found the complete poem and I think I enjoyed it anew as much as I did when I first encountered it in high school.

When I got to the line:
"And fathers are a blessing, too, they give the place a tone;
In fact each child should try and have some parents of his own."
I had to stop reading to wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes with a Kleenex.

Bless you.

Jerry
