Heartbroken
few more lives in scrambled eggs
lie dead on breakfast plates
yolk and white blended as one
delighting umpteen taste buds
broken shells of healthy eggs
bereaved of their loved ones
wonder why they're only cared
as Easter eggs once a year

Really heartfelt raj
I really felt the life of those murdered souls lol. I use to love scrambled eggs. no more scrambled baby chicks for me. Beautiful poem. You really captured the essence of a yellow chick that could have graced my presence if it had entered my path.

Hi Barbara
Thanks for taking time and effort to read and comment. Please don't give up your favorite scrambled eggs. This one is a sort of a satire to draw attention that we remember the martyrs only once a year on Memorial day.
warmly..

Not a problem. I’m a vegan and don’t eat meat or eggs anymore since August of last year

I love hearing the
I love hearing the inspiration behind your poems. this one was definitely unsettling (the eggs scrambling, the broken shells), and even moreso after hearing your reason for writing. thanks for sharing!

p.s. I like the play on words
p.s. I like the play on words in the title "heartbroken," since the eggs' shells (the soliders' bodies) have been broken, and so too our hearts.
