Wendy (February Contest)

The wind, it cried of sadness and
the wind, it filled with sorrow.
Soon we all were there to see that
Wendy would come to be.

Wendy was like a butterfly from
the breeze caught in a web.
We watched her as
she fluttered there and
let simple words be shed.

She was in her lonely way as
we sat close by and gazed.
Soon we found we were all the same
As we listened to one another
gently call her name.

Looking up we were all in a smile and
viewing a wondrous sight.
Our catch, our Wendy now
freed again and
with a fresh breeze she
was taking flight.

We knew being caught up in this way
was something that could not stay.
Breezes will whisper for us to say
bring all your Wendys through their day.
Let sounds of crying be sadness away.

The title suggests a little girl by that name. I have a little granddaughter by the name Paloma (Spanish for "dove) who displays all the characteristics of "Wendy," your poem's subject; gayness and sadness go hand in hand with either girl.
There is something sad about your poem, but I like it. Not sure about the "it" in both your first two lines. Take care, Mark. Jerry
Suggestion:
Maybe: The wind, it cried of sadness and
the wind, it filled with sorrow.
or,
the wind cried of sadness and
the wind was filled with sorrow.

Great ideas, just what I hope to get.
It was a kind of sad time and she was a darling.
The poem was written during a support group back in the 1990s called The Depression Workshop.
So your comments are spot on.

Mark. What a great write.
What else could the title be? so that's a winner.
Rhythm etc. is also good. Plenty nice short lines to hold your interest right through to the end.

Hope you're good and best of luck in the contest.

There is some great competition so we'll see.

What can I say but a beautifully sad read. My mother is called Wendy. I feel a lot of love from this piece, as well as sadness. A beautiful person who had to be freed. A wonderful tribute to a special Wendy. Very good of you to share such a loving and yet sad piece

Very moving read indeed

Thank you
