Voiceless Souls

Ode to the brave little souls
The ones who are beaten, bruised
Their eyes are pools of sorrow, despair
Their little hearts, once innocent, now refused

They may be small, they may not talk
Rest assured though, they remember
They may be down trodden, even broken
But I will make them whole by the end of November

Their deep brown eyes, melting hearts
Their cowering demeanours, at every gesture
They back away yet wish to approach
Their wounds, though unseen, seem to fester

They are lost, they are frightened
By the very thing they have every right to feel
They are hungry for more than a morsel of food
They worry not for their next meal

They are the souls turned into mere tools
By humanity, the very people meant to take care
Yes, it is us, humans, the heartless fools
That fail them each in the worst way

When will the cruelty to rule and own end?
When will humanity learn, if you destroy and maim
That which we refer to as man’s best friend
Will have no loyalty, no love, no name

Some dark day the tide will turn
The strong will become the weak
The weak will feel the courage of fire burn
Before it’s to late, before we are forced to retreat

Defend those that have no voice
Love them, nurture them, bring them back from the brink
Humanity, you have still the chance, use the wise choice
Do right by them, love them and watch them never again shrink

From love, cherishment and true compassion
Rehabilitate the damaged, don’t discard them like trash
This should be humanity’s final and pressing mission
Lest we see the last vestiges of our existence crash

Review Request (Intensity):
I appreciate moderate constructive criticism
Review Request (Direction):
How does this theme appeal to you?
Last few words:
Went the local Animal Shelter here, and the damage and hurt that I felt there from the poor animals we are meant to loving and nurturing really grabbed hold of my heart and squeezed. I left extremely angry with humanity in general. What are we doing to those left in our care!!!????? Apologies for the rant, but seriously. I have no words for the despair and utter desolation I saw in some of those little eyes yesterday. It needs to stop. As soon as I have settled my 3 "new babies" into a safe and loving home - I will be going back to volunteer as much as I can. Love makes a difference and I hopefully will bring just a little joy back to those beautiful animals. Again - Sorry for the rant.

putting others before you is a great deed and what you have done speaks a lot about your compassion. I liked your conviction "I will make them whole by the end of November" and I;m sure you would be able achieve that goal...

I would say that this poem is not a rant but an outpouring of your compassionate heart...

Great cause, Feebie.
So much to do
and yet we have so little time
and only one pair of hands.

Memories, even faint ones
are like drops of water
flowing into the ocean
what we really call life,

never miss those memorable
drops
for once they have fallen
and
merged with the ocean's surf
they have submerged with eternity
are gone everlastingly
to become part of the huge
expanse of nothingness
as water also evaporates

yes water now as clouds
feel each drop as it starts
rejoice with each dew
that joins that
fathomless ocean,
for it shows what is
real life, love and the purity of
one's soul..........
