Tin Man

I know of things yielded by "pride"
in fact, I've seen first hand
I'm sharing my own observations
so, you may better understand.

We've seen the dissapointments
where consequences were so mean;
but I've spied quite the opposite
'twas the damnedest thing I've ever seen!

He made it up to this desert
quite a ways from down by the beach;
believing he'd find happiness,
but it was always just out of reach.

This chap wouldn't discourage
as he drank "pride", right from the cup!
He then, turned to "fate", and he asked her;
"That's your best?! You've got me fucked-up!"

You see, he's felt each type of pain
caused by plagues from below, and above;
it accomplished in my friend the "Tin Man",
by teaching him how he could, love.

Tin Man had recently acquired
a baby-boy, pit-bull bred, "grand"!
this bull-pup being most handsome,
was quite fetching, in all of the land!

My friend had to sell his young protege',
for his need was a new pair of shoes;
that's when I saw, with both my own eyes
his propensity for feeling the "blues"!

So, just as in Oz's poor Tin Man,
or, Tin Woodsman as they're both, just the same;
they, all the while accepting their plight
while never ever, handing "luck", all the blame!

So, these two wayfaring "hard-asses"
are the same when you add up their "parts";
they're both keepers of an ancient, old "light",
that can brighten up sad, lonely hearts!

What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?

For my friend, "Orange County" Dave-(O.C. Dave).......the Tin Man who came from the beach, to live in the desert.

Comments

This one seemed to drift too much and the last two stanza's were loose.
The story is good and well found, I await the touches that you will probably do and then this piece will be to your normal standard, Yours Ian.T
