THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS

How vulgar are "thoughts and prayers"
To the victims of gunshots and tears.

The thoughts of apes and vultures
Salute the laws of savages
With prayers that spit at grief.

We wail from our skulls,
Wail from our bowels.

They call the bullets "rounds",
They call those bleeding "hit",
And call the dead as "down",
Like children in a playground
Of whimsical massacres.

O they call the killer a lunatic
And decree the "thoughts and prayers";
Their solemn words smell from shit
As they suck their barrels
Hoarding their sick
Ammunition.

And we wail from our skulls
That allow them the gun
As the god of liberty.

After a natural disaster a fucking idiot evangelical Christian flounced into the chat room imploring us to pray for the survivors.
I replied "If you believe in an interventionist god pray for him not to make natural disasters, you fatuous idiot."

I know that is not the main gist of your poem but I thought I might mention it.

A new workshop on the most important element of poetry-
'Rhythm and Meter in Poetry'
https://www.neopoet.com/workshop/rhythm-and-meter-poetry

Changed the title, added a thought, punctuated.

Most of our (USA) most esteemed evangelical religious leaders (those with rich suits and TV coverage) agree the natural disasters are because we have sinned against the vengeful lord. That i true also of terrorism, as 9/11 was because NYC was accepting homosexuals. But true, that is a different poem.

Australia has become the "poster boy" for the enactment of sane gun regulation. It is quite insane that America allows almost anyone to posses unlimited quantities of military armaments. In a country of 350 million it doesn't take many to go berserk. And the all the fucking politicians say, "First let us offer our thoughts and prayers...." followed by "now is not the time to talk of gun control" Funny, we talk about airplane safety after a crash.
Our problem is that vocal minority actually equate freedom/liberty to the right of owning a gun.
Eventually reason will prevail. Eventually.
