The Story So Far

Hey diddle diddle,
a government fiddle.
The Tory’s were over the moon.
And Cameron laughed
To see such fun
when Clegg was left holding the spoon.

Hey diddle diddle
a government fiddle
When Grant hides her budgeted stats.
The ministers hoot,
highly amused,
when taxpayers pay for their flats.

Hey diddle diddle
A government fiddle
Increasing the front bencher’s pay.
And Osborne chuckles,
seeing the plebs
on seven pounds fifty a day.

Hey diddle diddle,
a government fiddle
Decreasing the benefits stake.
The M.P’s snigger
to see the cash
increasing the money they make.

Hey diddle diddle
A government fiddle,
When Thatcher lays silent and still.
The upper crust snort
to see Joe Blogs
pay for her state funeral bill.

Hey diddle diddle
a government fiddle,
when ministers get a “surprise”.
horribly forced
With pay that's endorsed
to over a ten per cent rise.

Hey Mand Mand
You did a grind grand
Taking a dig at those folks
With six funny lines
When you poked each bloke
You made this read so fine :)

Thanks Raj - thought I might rise a few eye brows with this one! Te he

I'll probably locked up for treason! Still it's nothing that's not already known - just general knowledge in Britian which I thought I'd put to verse. Te he

Thanks Rula - nice of you to come by to comment - it means a lot to me.

I'm not abreast with British politics, but I recognize some of the characters in this, and indeed, some of the situations you're making fun off.

We face similar circumstances in Ghana, so I can relate quite well to this poem. Great read!!

The government is a constant source of discussion among the British people - I think ( not sure ) that this poem is a general reflection of how people view the government. I intended it to be a comical historical record done in poetry - with sarcastic overtones! Te he

Sorry to hear you've got the same problems - I have a feeling its like it all over the world.

Thanks for reading and commenting William - much appreciated.

it's easy to make make fun of the government with a nursery rhyme, but what are they actually doing wrong and right? That's why I took exception to this poem. Be smart. Say what you really think. Don't just be an Ephraim Crud who crits without content.

Not every poem needs to say everything. Using playful poem to show what the people think about their government is acceptable. These lines show some of the unfairness in the society she's showing

"The ministers hoot,
highly amused,
when taxpayers pay for their flats."

"And Osborne chuckles,
seeing the plebs
on seven pounds fifty a day"

It is meant to be light-hearted, although it talks about serious issues.

A good catchy write though not my field of writing, would give it a go if challenged LOL.
Now as to putting those twisted people into Nursery rhymes what is life coming to, it's alright to write about the plague, but these are in a league of their own, lol
This would frighten the children too much..
Take care they may come for you,

Sorry! I forgot to make a reply. ( you can give me a smack in the chops if you like ). Lol

Ha ha - I love your wit! Lets hope children's eyes are averted until they are older, or they might be scarred for life. . Lol

Nice of you to come by - still smiling.

I loved it, its a tongue in cheek poem, it has underlying tones of seriousness that are glossed over a little with the tempo and the tone of the poem, but I cant see anything to suggest I am not good at these types of poems and I admire anyone that can pull them off

well done

It's always nice to see those stunning eyes!

Glad you liked the poem - I was quite prepared to get abuse for this poem because it's a controversial subject, so I'm quite amazed how positive a reaction it's had.

So a big thank you for reading and commenting - I think you have an wonderful talent for descriptive imagery and your poems are well thought out - you have the wow factor and I am rarely not affected emotionally by them!

Thanks again I feel greatly encouraged by your visit - which is always appreciated.
