SITE FOR SORE EYES

My first thought it may have been inspiration
That I really sought, to focus my concentration
Seeking a theme, a title, perhaps a new form
Reflecting gentle breezes or a violent storm
But soon after I registered on that poetry site
And soon after, a welcome later that night
It was clear to me that this offered much more
With potential support of friends at its very core

My second thought was joining a community
Not just entering more poems with impunity
And that feedback may assist my submissions
Always aware of the modest entry conditions
Any gentle critique was most actively sought
And guidance that some feedback brought
A site so heavily laden, almost overgrown
And to compare others’ poetry to my own

My third consideration was that this was free
With potential recognition, but no entry fee
A feeling of freedom, just to let poetry flow
Reference material helpful if you did not know
Just an honest site, deserving approbation
No surreptitious angles to offer publication
Subsequent printable copies as an online sale
But hardcopy at extra cost if sent by mail

My fourth thought was then lost as I wrote
Words flowed fast and in the ether did float
A dam had now burst, I had more to prove
And well motivated, I was back in the groove
Sure that contests kept stretching my mind
At this rate of entry I’ll not be left behind
So, now I’m at home in this well-fitting seat
And may my poem list never be complete
