Shootout at an Arizona Cow Town

From the Diary of this Single Action Cowboy Shooter

We cleaned and oiled our shootin’ irons,
reloaded polished brass last night.
Today we’ll hold our shootin’ match,
yippee-ki yay! let’s do it right.

My Missus is a gal named “Linda Lu,”
she’s dressed in western garb and trim,
and I’m her hubby, “Sloe Slug Slim”
(I took that alias on a whim).

We loaded up our trusty jeep
(the hoss we left at home),
then moseyed down the offbeat trail
where cowboys and their gals still roam.

Each “Single Action Cowboy Shooter”
aims his pistols, shotgun, rifle
to hit the iron target plates
at 30 yards--which is a trifle.

Our aim is true; 10 pistol shots,
drawn from the left and then right hip,
10 rifle slugs that hit the mark,
4 shotgun blasts; we let ‘em rip.

Some of our pals work for the banks,
and some just loaf around all day,
and I just write bad poetry--
and that is all I care to say.
………………..
We dun it Geeze. See ya around.
Jerry, aka Sloe Slug Slim

Hi, Jerry!
You seem in a great mood today! Great poem, too! (Just wanna make certain no cowboys or cattle were harmed during the making of this poem... Ha!)
Thank you!
L

no cattle were harmed or molested by cowboys under the supervision of this strict scoutmaster. But those darned sheepherders got a little frisky and I had do use a cattle prod on them, lol. Thank you, most sincerely, for commenting, dear lady. Jerry

it does put one in a good mood! I know that my nephew and his cohorts are always in a good mood after they throw a few thousand rounds down-range and kill a few targets. Maybe I'll go join them next time they go. It wasn't that bad a poem, BTW.

yep, there is nothing finer than the fleshy thud of a chunk of lead tearing into one of my many "friends," rather than the clanking of lead on metal. Made me think of Laos . . . . Oh! you are talking about "killing paper targets." Yep, I'm your huckleberry, lol. Thanks for commenting, and now I need to clean the old blunderbuss before I must go to bed. Had fun; wish I could post some photos. So long. Jerry

I meant paper targets! I'd like to see some of those [paper] targets shredded and lying on the desert floor and your single-action blunderbuss smoking from its' ugly maw. Gives me shivers, just thinking about it. ~ Geez.

Steel targets--boing, boing! No paper! that's for sissy target snipers. Oh, you still have so much to learn about the fine art of killing a steel silhouette, lol. Thanks Geezer
