Self Resurrection
I healed from my past
Looking back I can now laugh
Never paying revenge to tame my ego
The debts I paid were illegal
Hands on my body that made me cry
My story, I was taught to deny
So low, the ground was above me
No one cared to dig me free
I found a tool to dig my way out
Pen in my pocket I began to shout
As I began to scribe on my tomb
The seals began to break as if I were in a womb
The sun began to shine with each word I wrote
Freedom came the more of the truth I didn't sugar coat
Free at last as a hand was gave
As I looked back at my grave
Who is this that helped lift me out
She looked like me without a doubt
It was me, that had risen myself from despair
Time to tell my story with no time to spare
No longer embarrassed, with my head held high
No more tears as my daughters drew nigh
I have a story to tell you, one in her teens one knee high
They both would know before my family could deny
My story was told from beginning to end
They would never suffer from those past sins
My grave taught me to fight and not just for me
I would save others not just my family

Hi QueenPheonix. This is a stellar example of how a poem can really bring awareness to issues like these that exist in society. The emotion in this poem is expertly conveyed, leaving the reader with a new understanding of this topic. Well done!

Generational trauma
I commend your self awareness. My wife and I are working hard to break this cycle. Looking back on my childhood I realize now that my father who was emotionally and physically abused as a child was breaking that generational garbage back then as he never laid hands on me once. My mom had a more difficult time and she is still working on it with her therapist. I catch myself falling into her parenting style with my kids and it made me seek therapy myself. If you are committed to this task you can give the world such a gift by raising them in a more emotionally literate environment.
The poem is good, the subject of it is really important,

Thanks Tim I went years of thinking that it didn't bother me, that was until I had children of my own and two failed marriages. Everyone has their own way of healing and feeling complete. I had to go within and relive the moments, with losts of meditation. When I finally had a breakthrough. I'm on a mission and I can finally say I found my calling.

Hello Queen P.
This is a very narrative piece! The poem has a lot of 'I' which defined it as a personal experience. Personal pronouns make the text seem as though it is directly addressing the reader, making it more personal and more likely for the reader to respond.
The good new is, no matter how hard life seem to be; at the end of the tunnel our light shines forth.
Check on this line:
'Free at last as a hand was gave'
It would have been > Free at last as a hand was given'
I guess, you were trying to achieve a rhyme here.
Lively presentation.

Nice poem
the journey to self actualization is often lonely and rocky. pitfalls are hard to see. Mudholes are easier to see, yes? Congrats to you for going down this path!
