requiem in silence (covd-19)

let us have a requiem in silence
for the dead and the dead to come

i do not care or will be told
which vengeful god or gods to pray to
or to what end, they always step aside
when the dark angel knocks at the castle door

yet let us sanctify the silence
death surrounds us all, so many deaths unsung
a flash of photographs posted on a wailing wall
the names of loved ones suddenly made orphaned souls

i want to cherish them
remember their unwelcome sacrifice, remember
not by hopes not by prayers but with compassion
that my whole being wears like a coat of wordless lament

let us have a requiem in silence
for the dead and the dead to come

Last few words:
As friends and neighbors report of deaths, the reality of covid-19 becomes harder. It is now said hundreds of thousands will die in the US, and so many more around the world. A profound sadness awaits us all who survive. May fate be with us Neopoets.. The form of this poem in the original does not use commas but spacing. No matter how I try the poem presents itself differently when I press "SAVE" . This is a very frustrating aspect of this site. I have added commas to show spacing.

if it would help, but if you have a poetry app. it might help to run it through that. I agree, that there are probably going to be many more unwelcome deaths; but not much we can do about it, other than maintain our social-distancing and taking all the precautions we are able. I like the lines about how whatever God or gods there may be, they always step aside as Death comes knocking on the castle door. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

What’s a poetry app? Sounds great! That’s exactly what I need:)

so beautifully truthfully said

I always maintain

God gives way and steps aside
till vanish

we remaining may
Rest bow in fear
of a bigger disaster

takes an apocalyptic or near apocalyptic subject matter and arranges it like a puzzle one finds in the Doctor's office? But I guess this is what some people like..so congratulations on that.

The first sentence is a statement not a question. I’ve never seen a puzzle in a doctors office. I have no idea what that means.

who said apocalyptic? That’s a word reserved for catastrophes like a meteor or a plague killing 2/3 of the population like the red death.

Corona sucks. My mother died from it a few weeks ago .
The poem is very obvious. A simple lament saying the truest compassion comes from us, from our silence, from our sadness, not from whatever bullshit god you might believe will somehow intervene..
