Raising the Bar

My children are drowning
in plastic
and I can't seem
to stem the tide
while they're hypnotised
by bullshit
I'm dying a little
inside

I'm networking
instead of
parenting

I'm raising automatons

My children are brainwashed
with apathy
made to look 'pretty'
told what to do
what to say
and I'm ashamed
a little bit more
everyday

I'm thinking
when I should be
listening

I'm raising 'good citizens'

I'm changing

My children are sowing seeds
with loving hands
encouraged to feel the land
walk barefoot
into their future
and I'm covered in dirt
determined to nuture

We're planting and
we're laughing

I'm raising little Earth girls

Girls who know they're worthy
accept their own beauty
who won't be afraid
to swim against the tide
who have hearts big enough
to hold all
because they were taught
that Love
never
runs
out

I'm watching
and I'm learning

I've birthed Hope, twice
and I'm choosing
to raise the bar

I'm bringing up
Goddesses

Last few words:
Half way through the poem I realised I was being a little hard on myself so changed tack a little :) also like to end on positive note. It's made giving this piece a title quite hard, so be interseted to know if it works? and whether the change in mood jars a bit? Perhaps it would be better as two distinct poems?! Input gratefully recieved :) xxx

HI Shirl :) thanks for your comment, I find what you say about the end rather interesting and I have been giving the end more thought, but Goddess IS what i want for my girls, to grow in the knowledge of their infinite natures and be assured they can cocreate their own future, what ever that may be :) do think a little edit at the end might be needed though, watch this space :)
I'm happy you felt the poem was powerful and picked up on what I was trying to convey, thank you, much love Beki xxx

Hi beautiful :) we've missed you too!! glad you liked the ending hon, as I said to Shirl think it might need a little edit, I want to add something about choice there I think :) I was hard on myself lol it's so easy for me, but I am coming to a place of more acceptance, such as you're writing of of late :) and we've made the resolution to get rid of the tv in the new year, which i'm happy about :)) BIG love to you dear one xxxx
