Only Bob Dylan Is Bob Dylan

the poet sits on a dark park bench
drinking mad dog 2020 with a drunk
a crumpled penthouse invite
in his pocket
the clever ones complain
while drinking champagne
impressed with themselves for changing
poetry's worn out face:
when metaphors could be understood
they were no good
the drunk never puts another
in his place
this man of the streets got the beat
he knows all carts and cargo weigh the same
he sits with just one face his red eyes watching
those hard-yoked eyes have seen it all before
he's seen the new emperors
in their fashionable clothes
ragged rumplestiltskins failing
to spin their straw to gold
the moon is missing the booze is gone
the poet pats the old drunk's hands,
grateful,
before going home to write
a pulitzer prize winner poem
unconcerned with the causes of clever
just thinking about sitting on a dark park bench
finding a face for that moon

like a rant against the ivory tower poets who are responsible for the decline of our art

scribbler you got that right. "nuanced" language poets. "advanced" language poets. right. thanks for reading.

I like maybe 1 in 100 of his poems nd loved maybe 1 in 1000.
Ya need to be that prolific to have that many hits I believe.
Is there anywhere, anyone he has not been or known?

Great poem Cathy,

If you take the time to read a poem then take the time to let the author know you were there. Study it and form an opinion as well, even if it means going back to it more than once. That is basic critique, what Neopoet is all about.

wow. i consider him a word and lyric and music god. grew up with him. before i got old enough to forget i knew every word on his first 12 albums. with god on our side is a masterpiece. i have never not liked anything from him lol. i would probably give his grocery list an A+. thanks for reading. let's hope the clever ones are not so prolific

I meant songs...
but if I liked any I loved it!
I recall this little song Down Along Cove that is when he had me..
.
Down along the cove, I spied my true love comin' my way
Down along the cove, I spied my true love comin' my way
I said, "Lord have mercy, mama
It sure is good to see you comin' today"

Down along the cove, I spied my little bundle of joy
Down along the cove, I spied my little bundle of joy
She said, "Lord have mercy, honey
I'm so glad you're my boy"

Down along the cove, we walked together hand in hand
Down along the cove, we walked together hand in hand
Everybody watchin' us go by
Knows we're in love, yes, they understand
~Dylan~
I grew up on a lake and so my first GF lol
.
Later,
