OLD WHITE GUYS

My first lesson was years ago
while camping on a mountain river
some biker types with lights aglow
made the peaceful valley shiver.

One came back in a short while
in a station wagon lying dead.
An old white guy didn't like his style
and filled him full of lead.

These old white guys have few years left
and there's no way to really tell
if they've been to war and their foes cleft
while sending enemies to hell.

You see, they've likely done the math
about how long some trial would last
plus appeals and all that aftermath
in case a guilty verdict might be passed.

That old guy with hair gone white
is likely tougher than you think
and when he thinks he's in the right
his trigger can go off in a blink.

So if you see him sitting there
looking old and kind of frail
rocking in his rocking chair
sipping on his beer or ale

Best just wave and call him sir
and watch the language that you use
lest hidden anger you bestir
and ignite a short and ready fuse.

I started to write. I know a few of the old guys that would kick some ass if it came down to it. Got a couple that live right on my street as a matter of fact. Been to war and done some shit! I think that if there were a chance that they wouldn't be caught, there would be a lot fewer drug-dealers standing around on the corner dealing smack and crack. If you walk past them, you will be asked be asked for a cigarette or some change in-between hopeful whispers of "What you want? I got sour man, you want some sour?" "Sour" is supposed to be real good weed; [frequently moistened with water and sugar].

Anyways, great tale of the O.W.G's!
As per usual, your rhyme is spot on, but your scansion stinks! ~ Gee..

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Sometimes i take a break and just write with little thought to anything except message. And, yes i suspect some of the low lives who just go "missing" ran into the wrong old white guy lol......stan

It feel like you're flirting with the "t" word (Trash).
Most cowboys were peaceful folk, gentle men tending to cattle, yet our image of the wild west was constant showdowns at the ok corral. It may be our inherent need of machoism, tough guy, John Wayne. I know the types you're referring to, but gangs and violence exist in all cultures. Look at how the drug lords and gangsters are portrayed, as heroes of evil, bigger than life. I wonder if we all have a little of that instinct in us.
How do we build bridges between these short fused violent old white guys, six packers, tough talkers, and usually not that interested in ideas with more than 3 syllables. Wish I knew. surely education would help, but if daddy's a rough house drunk so might the be the son.
Not to worry. The new health care bill will set back their insurance, they'll all die soon. The new generation may be more into selfies than guns. I hope so.

Thankfully i recognized them for what they were and was careful to watch what I said. There was a time around here when using a cuss word around those in my grandfather's generation would result in either an apology or a black eye. In a way those days look better now as the level of discourse continues to get lower. Thanks for the visit and comment..........stan
