it’s nice
an evening outdoors for the first time in a long time
what with winter being so very wet this year
and so very cold
spring’s coming
its essence tantalises expectation of
jasmine and wattle and amenity

it’s late, long past dark
but birds are still singing their nesting songs
insect sounds compete with occasional hum of traffic
along with a hardly-heard rendering of Die Fledermaus
drifting across the fenced-off yards
from the home of one of those adjourning
somewhere left of me
(I wish they would turn it up)

all holds promise of soon-to-be more neighbour noise
spring stirring to bring
the thrum of lawnmower, the buzz of children at play
laughter and music
and aroma of cuisine through open windows
after the silent, non-fragrant void of winter lock up
I can almost smell the barbecues

not a breath of breeze
today’s soothing heat, retained by sky blankets of cloud
wraps around me in a welcome of warmth
it’s nice
spring

what’s this?
bloody hell, it’s raining
.

I reached for the Brolly but then looked up and out of my window it is a fine summers evening here lol.
The third Stanza for some reason hangs badly I maybe confused as to whether you are inside or out, yet hearing through an open window seemed to sort that out ??
I shall lift this one back to the stream and wait to hear from others, Yours Ian.T

i only arrived home from work an hour or so ago

when i'm on evening shifts i'm an early early bird and a late late sleeper lol - i don't start work until 3.30 pm ... oh but then there's the downside where i work from 7 am to 4 pm and my body clock gets all messed up and all i want to do is sleep .. and we won't go into when i'm working nights lol

You seldom make that failing.

You are one of the poets who, though I often quibble with your precepts, write serious, important poetry with profound ideas.

Yeah, well I do it too, rarely.

You are excused. i like this.

cheers,

this winter has been a cold and a really shut up inside one, so the thought of spring and the tiny taste i had before it rained on me made me feel a little melancholic / nostalgic - i guess it came through in the write. thanks for excusing my weakness this time lol

and thank you so very much for the supportive and encouraging comments regards my writing

you are one of the exceptional poets out here

who doesn't make out bones
about oneself nor do you
strike others with a bone ...
like some do here
and they are not unknown..
behave like frothing acid from bottles
poured into some empty glass
half full of water they fizzle..
