Monster In The Closet...

Who knows what evil lurks
in the closet dark and musty?
I think it must be kin to
underneath the bed all dusty

When the door is open
and the dark holds sway
I cover up my head
and pray for light of day

The squeak of dried out hinges
gives me chills and pause
I think of all those evil things
with fangs and sharpened claws

From just inside the door
in the nightlight glowing dim
I see some lit up eyes
Oh Lord, it must be him!

I hear a rustle and a skitter
it slinks beneath the bed
Please, don't let it get me
I guess that I am dead

It doesn't make a sound
but, I feel it climb
up the blanket to sit with me
Chills run down my spine

Now, it snuffles closer
I feel its' heated breath
I'm shaking like a leaf
here comes certain death!

This coverlet won't stop him
if he wants my life
What I wouldn't give
for my Boy Scout knife

The blanket is raising upward
it's trying to get in
I'm holding it with all my might
but it's going to win

I feel the wet and bloody muzzle
of the monster's maw
It nuzzles up to my neck
right beneath my jaw

Goodbye cruel world, I'm all done
and it's over, just like that...
Now, I'm feeling kind of foolish
'Cause it's just my little cat!

Dear Geezer, great imagination, and quite scary too, loved the imagery you really made me laugh!

Excellent write so enjoyable! Love it!

Thank you...Teddy

This came about from a comment that Lavender made about monsters not being real; or are they? So glad that I made you laugh and I hope that it does the same for others. ~ Geezer.

I just wanted to wish you and indeed all Neopoets from the USA great day today on the 4th of July.

Thank you...Teddy

This is GREAT! You are a very clever poet. The rhythm and rhyme are sharp and bring out the best of your humor. Is it too late to enter into this month's contest? I am so relieved to know all that fearsome noise in my closet is only my cat! Wait...do I have a cat?
Thank you!

Boy Scout knife knocked me off my chair!
Great, funny poem!

to enter the June contest; but just! I do so hope, that you DO have a cat! Or... maybe some other little critter and not a monster. Monsters are very hard to get rid of. I think that they have some kind of invisibility thing that comes into play when you turn on the light or when an adult comes into the room. Unfortunately, some people have to grow up, to protect the rest of us from the monsters. ~ Geezer.

is a scaredy cat, Geezer is a scaredy cat, he's afraid of his little cat! Did the little kitty scare our brave big boy? Aaww-- but "puddy" cats--and other things can make the blanket billow up . . .cute image; I had to laugh. Pretty consistent rhyming too. Jerry

I read this while I'm at the bed preparing for sleeping, I shouldn't have read it though but it was so good to stop at the middle, now I need someone with lullabies, otherwise, you're responsible for any nightmares. Lol :)

one of my Guardian Angels, [the ones who protected me all those years] and you shall have a good nights' sleep! If you have a puppy or a cat, they will suffice. A little soft music also helps. It drowns out the noise that the monsters in the closet make, but be sure to close the door. ~ Geez.
