A modern parody

A Modern Parody

Row on row of crosses
standing stark against the sky
where thieves and fools and even Saviors
dangle til they die

Not for punishment or shame
nor to appease the masses
but only to amuse a bunch
of silly Roman asses

it was for this and nothing more
that many met their fate
in a land beloved by God
but ruled by greed and hate

you may think me incorrect
in what I now will say
but I believe things just as bad
are happening today

in a nation known for truth
great lies are being spread
by those who’ve sworn to keep the faith
and stand by what they’ve said

a government of people chosen
by the ones they lead
now turns a deaf ear to its folk
and makes the people bleed

they do not wear the toga
nor crowns of laurel leaf
but still they flaunt their power
and shout their disbelief

for anything that tries to change
the way the game is played
and anyone who dares to challenge
what their laws have made

As almost always a wonderful cadence to your verses connecting the past and the present...appropriate title...made good reading...

When people face the facts, and realise that governments rule at the behest of the wealthy. And that to say we have democracy is a sham, then perhaps they'll start to change things. Until then now as in the past we'll get lied to. Loved the poem, sorry about the sermon. Regards Roscoe...

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

Elf has suggested I change to title to "A Modern Travesty", is that a good option you think?
