Maybe this is all there is

I look before me
there are no other footsteps to guide my way
I look behind me
and the wilderness in which I have carved a single path
has already begun creeping back to place
as the evidence of my struggle fades and disappears
I stand tall among men
yet crumble to my knees in desperation of a creator
Hear me! "do I not deserve happiness?"
my womb has bore me the only life I live for
and I watch helplessly as my flesh turns to dust
I am slipping through my own fingertips
I am alone
waiting for the arms of mercy

I like philosophical poems, so will try to hold the trend.
You speak of loneliness (no other footsteps, single path, I am alone) and a desire for a higher purpose to support weakness.( desperation of a creator, "do I not deserve happiness?", I watch helplessly, waiting for the arms of mercy)
The main attribute of God or creator is "Creation" and the ability to create is the godlike gift given to humanity. I do not think happiness is something deserved but something developed through the understanding of interconnectedness, like a parents love for a child.
"Maybe this is all there is" No, this is not all there is, the spiritual is boundless.

The most powerful reaction

is transference of sight

I sincerely appreciate that someone would take the time to form thoughts, words, perception and extend themselves to a stranger... really I guess I'm just that lonely. I felt a small spark of inspiration from your words... but the truth is, I think we are, for the most, desperately lonely. How can one be eager to absorb the awe of the spiritual, when today lacks the ability to quench our thirst for purpose or hope.

an Agnostic, I am sure that there is something that binds all life and things in the universe, but not sure of the need to worship it. However, you certainly give pause to the philosophically inclined. I feel the wonder of imagination and the thrill of belief here. ~ Geez.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Hi! Thanks for the grammar catch btw.
I wrote this poem a few years ago... I have since changed my beliefs; or perhaps the lack of something to believe in changed me. I am no longer diluted with the idea that direction relies on an omnificent one; or perhaps I am not as important as my youthful anger led me to believe. I laugh that the only teacher to my virtues has been the inability to care. Life is ironic

is a machine of discrimination fuelled by 7.7 billion people. No one entity could create such a situation. You are not alone, lol
