Lunarcies

On a darkly shadowed tarmac
with a night color to match
and a brisk-like chill that tenses up my hair,

my shadow's dallying behind me
then at times, way up ahead
attempting, quite on purpose to give myself a "scare".

Off in the dim lit distance
towards the direction of night's breeze
muted sounds I can't decipher tend to drone,

I'm uneasy with the quiet
indignation in night's eyes
and the way it makes me feel I'm not alone.

Then, peripherally a shadow
that was separate from my own,
which continued dancing crazily around;

formed cold, sinewy fingers
on an unseen, groping hand
that stole my breath away complete without a sound!

Then as swiftly as it's grip appeared
erasing clean my plumes of breath
a dark veil fell from night's canopy to blind,

with my vision dulled by shadows
continuing to play the night's cruel games
and trying hard to make me feel I'd lost my mind!

Unfair cover from the darkness
coerced my pace to slow it's gate
to a crawl, when I much rather would've sped,

lack of consciousness surrounded me
as I watched my shadow scurry home
when again, my eyes could see I was in bed!

Twilight's hours can so convincingly
steal a body's breath away
leaving hollow, empty shadows in it's wake,

evil magic in the darkness
has brought good men down to their knees
causing lunarcies no man was meant to take.

If you ever see your shadow
dancing crazily down your path
announcing everything you thought you knew was wrong,

you may not fare quite as luckily
as I did when 'twas my fate
and I heard the evil hollow of night's song!

the rhythm was good in most places, I love theme and the story flowed well from beginning to end. I do believe the word you want in the line: [coerced my pace to slow it's gate] is [ gait ]. Come to the next Chat on the Darkside, you have a darkness to your work! ~ Geezer
