love -- for you

love -- for you

until the sun turns dark and falls
'til the seas dry up and fade
'til stars stop twinkling
or I wear the souls of my feet off
coming for you --

'til clocks count backwards
and the lens can't see
or granite is soft as cotton
on slopes of the Rockies
no light shines --

'til all wine sours on the vine
'til I can't write another word
or hear another verse
in this skull of mine --

until the last tree falls
and the last fish is caught
or all breaths have been counted
from each lung
'til pi is figured to the last digit
I shall love you --

until the eagle stops eating the liver
of Prometheus and Sisyphus can stop
rolling his rock up the hill
or the Nile flows south
and Gibraltar falls
'til never comes to pass
and longer I shall love you --

forever is just a word
for most
I know it immaculate and pure --

love like this doesn't happen
every day
it is beyond infinite
present and real --

hear me now and hearken
be content
it is true.

I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Last few words:
I wrote this for a lady friend I have loved so long that the loving feels just like breathing, and as life sustaining.

Shirley,

My lady friend received this one first, so she knows it quite well. If nothing else, I am a hopeful romantic. I am hanging on with fingernails to see her just one more time.

Thank you so much~!

Rosina,

'Just one thing in this line…

“{I know it} immaculate and pure” … [Perhaps, I know it as, or it’s?] "

I thought about this too, and still think about it when I re-read this piece. Perhaps some day I will change it; I cannot say.

Thanks for the read and helpful comment.

We're really on the same page - and this poem has just proved it to me!!
"Till never comes to pass

I too have someone I wish to dedicate this (or something very similar) to ;)
Thanks

this is a very beautiful, heart-opening pledge
thank you for sharing it with us.

one little thing (and we wont tell your lady friend and no-one will ever be the wiser)
the eagle isn't eating prometheus's heart any more (remember, chiron took a poison arrow after pandora did her thing and hercules killed ethan with sagittarius' arrow,)
sorry victor, i'm just having some fun with you, skiting with my knowledge (and i only have that for i researched a poem about prometheus...)
LOL i even have a quick fix for you if i have spoiled things (i hope not)
'until the eagle stops eating the liver
of Prometheus' - change to -
'until prometheus removes the granite ring
fashioned from his prison....

but it isn't important i know.... just funning with you
as i said - beautiful words from the heart
love judy

shall draw the Thing as he sees It, for the God of Things as They are.'

why aren't there more guys like this? women don't ask for poets all the time, but the ability to feel something would be nice...i see Victor, you are one of those exceptions. great use of mythology, nicely done.
