Little Love

“I was wondering how you’d feel
about turning on the fan before we go to sleep?”, she said
“I don’t know, it’s a big decision”, I answered;
trying to be silly with the mundane

“Well, I’ll leave you to it”, she replied
The fan is switched on now
and I love the way she talks to me

Easy, and with a familiar rhythm
like the gentle and flowing air
from the constant of the turning blades

Last few words:
One of my favorite aspects of poetry is its ability to capture the simplest and often briefest of moments, and shine a light on the beauty therein.

"The true alchemists do not turn lead into gold; they turn the world into words." -William H. Gass

in time, caught like the instant when your eye is just at the split second in the turning of the blades and it seems that they stop for just then. I think that maybe you might change the wording of the line about the turning of the blades to: The constant turning of the blades. A small, but significant change to make it smoother. ~ Geez.

Thanks for your thoughts Geez! I'll play around with that line with a future edit - I like it!

Hi Michael, it's so true, as others have all ready said, poetry about simple things is usually among the best. Picking a fan and all the rest of everyday decisions is masterly.
Enjoyed, Gracy

Thank you Gracy! Sometimes, at least for me, the smallest moments are the hardest to capture in poetry. I always spend time paring down the words in drafts to let a better simplicity come through.
