Is it Time to Grow Old?

The day isn’t as cold as it seemed it would be.
A walk in the sun would be lovely for the dog and me.
She loves the companionship and change of scenery,
will I choose the warm shadows of my sanctuary?
Hidden like usual or
exposed to criticism.
An experience that feeds the spirit doesn’t seem likely
in my mind’s eye.
I don’t trust you fine folks ——— whoever you are,
no sarcasm this time, I’ve been beat down,
But words to the effect of “There is more to heaven
and earth than is dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio”,
do linger in my memory.
Often my faith in greed, avarice, and brutality is stronger
than my belief in peace, love, and understanding.
A joiner who basks in the group aura is one I’ll never be, but
I must consider the risks of a full scale retreat from my race.
The human race that is.
I hope my words and drawings will be your gift
and that my volume won’t offend or overwhelm you,
so I’ll keep dipping my toe, just to see
Before I flee.

...is a pain in the fucking arse. But at least one isn't actually dead. Which is a major consolation.

author comment

the world, it is merely cautious and at times unable to see the virtues of such individuals as yourself. The world at large, is unmindful of a single life; unless it interrupts the flow of the lemming. Besides, where else is there to go? We have already been kicked out of Paradise! I like that this made me think. ~ Geezer.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Always nice to see a fellow South Carolinian here. Aging has its drawbacks as I'm coming to realize but a lot of folks never have the chance to grow old.............
