Idul Fitri

The fasting month has come to pass
now it is time to celebrate Idul Fitri
weaving memories of happiness
as we visit the homes of loved ones
rejoicing in the moments of bliss

Tears of joy spilling, washing away
a mountain of past sins.
Praise Allah for all his blessings
as we embrace one another
in the spirit of togetherness,
acknowledging our wrongs
to heal broken ties
and to form a stronger bond
formed by love, faith and unity

Even as we share sweet delicacies,
let us not forget the unfortunate.
together we pray for them
that they may find the courage
to face the trials of life.
let them never stray from our hearts
even though they lived
a thousand miles away..

See the faces of our young ones.
How they lit up when they receive
small packets of monetary gifts.
May they grow to become adults
who will continue to share
the joy of giving with others
especially those who are in need..

Everywhere, the spirit of Idul Fitri
surrounded us with their brightness.
Its in the decorations along the roads,
in the communal prayers which we attend,
the traditional garments that we wear,
its in our smiles and laughter,
the precious moments that we share
yet the brightest of them all
is in the hearts where peace resides...

This is the beauty of Idul Fitri
to all the muslims in the world...

A good poem on the joy of celebration after a month of fasting,
your poem rings out the changes from the dedication of those that are traditional, I have put the events sequence at the bottom.
Take care and enjoy your life,

List of dates for other years

Eid-al-Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid al-Fitr.

.
There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

The Malay community here called it "Aidilfitri". It does mark a new month after Ramadan. its a misconception to think that the khutba is only on that day. In fact, we do have sermons before our Friday prayers which will replace the zohor prayers done in the other days. Anyone who missed out on that prayer will then have to pray the normal zohor prayer instead. The thing is we need at least a group of 40 people to conduct the Friday prayers,

The difference in the khutbahs in both prayers is in the timing. The sermon on Friday is done before the prayer while the one in Idul Fitri is done after the prayers.

Thanks for the visit and the comments, Ian
