I WILL NOT FALL FOR THAT

The Niger Delta struggle started, not today
King Frederick William Koko led warriors
to General Goldie’s garrison at Akassa
He was sent on exile after his capture
Oh! I need not say, same story for others
Oba Ovarenwem, King Jaja of Opobo
Nana of Itshekeri, the nostalgic reminiscence
in far away land, my people, my kingdom

The land lay wasted without the helmsmen
free for all comers, strange were their ways
With gifts of gun powder and hot drinks
minerals and produce were shipped away
to keep fancy foreign factories from failing
This in turn served their mercantilist goals
The hand that powered Goldie’s gunboats
through the creeks, now sits in Aso Rock

You know what; I will not fall for that
With my eyes closed, I can unmask you
Joint Task Force, a resurgence of Frontier Force
in the creeks of Niger, replays the Nembe siege
The economy suffers, people groan and die
Laudable amnesty for militants and war lords
Like our exiled leaders of ancient kingdoms
The land is free for trade in gold, it is the oil…

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

I hear you crying there and there is nothing we can do or you can do we are not in control of anything any more.
Then we must seek out a life that is free from all of these greed's and hate.
We cannot be with the ones that have the Oil or Money they will not even know we are there.
A grand write Iboro, another history, I always envied the Bushman and his life style where he lived as the world around him let him live and he was so happy.
You don't worry about these highbrow things have a lovely year and try to find a peace in your ways that lets you be a true person, Yours Ian.T
