I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head

I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head
You probably saw it too because it was all over the internet
It looked like it hurt but somehow it didn't end up dead
It was still swimming until it got stuck in a fishing net

I wonder if the other fish found it funny
Me? I didn't laugh at all
I know how it feels to be kicked whilst you are down
It's like watching the ocean waves roll, but they never reach the shore

I think of that little fish all the time
and how I wish I could be as sad and tragic one day
Because even though that video felt like a crime
There was beauty in the way it dealt with the pain

You could learn something, you know
about life from that video
I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head
and figured that I can't give up, even if it's all they've ever said
to do
I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head
and I won't give up - just like the fish with a harpoon through it's head

It was 2am and all I could think about
That's another fishy's baby, so cruelly taken out
But the worst part is that it was fine until the net came down
It would have survived if it were just allowed to be free

I think of that little fish all the time
and how I wish I could have the same resilience
Because even when missing part of its body
It was so obliviously brilliant

You could learn something, you know
about life from that video
I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head
and figured that I can't give up, even if it's all they've ever said
to do
I saw a video of a fish with a harpoon through it's head
and I won't give up - just like the fish with a harpoon through it's head
