FOR HOW LONG

For how long will I live in foolery?
Hoping it will be better bye and bye
While things go bad in the day and nighttime
Unabated, my kismet wears away
Left in ruins to rot in abandonment

For how long will I live to be sorry?
My belongings blot due to lack of means
Unwelcome rats sneak in to eat my clothes
These stocks up glories of the past era
Like tattered flags of a battered nation

For how long will I live in deception?
Of promises that were mere lip service
Hope of affordable decent lodging
Of constant light and portable water
These pledges, you renege with no remorse

For how long will corruption hold its sway?
Our collective mandates trampled upon
Whilst rigging rife amid impunity,
Then translated into half bags of rice
On your deceptive re-election campaign

For how long will this madness continue?
Electoral offenses glossed over
Now bomb blasts and weeping in high places
With imposters eying the golden throne
The future hangs on a falling balance

For how long will the poor masses suffer?
From the things we can change if we say no
Let every vote count and be secured
Let every one rise to protect this land
One man, one woman, one vote, one Nation

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

You know the answers.
Africa is held in poverty by both the East and the West as a source of cheap resources and especially cheap labour.

The answer is African unity, that can only be achieved by the combined voices of the African people.
You hold a position that few poets do, where you can actually make a change.

I have taught you all I can about writing poetry in a Western voice, now you need to mould those skills in an African voice.

I have been stripped of all dignity, I lost my job due to mismanagement and bad policies of the Government. With little or no means to weather the storm, I hide behind the computer screen, a man without means, abandoned by family, the site becomes my place of comfort.

Without means, I can do little. Here, if you try to fight corruption, this monster turns around to fight you back. I am in the world extreme corner and not in the row with the eminent.

Yes, I know why, My next piece, 'Price of Freedom' deals with exploitation that started long ago. Thank you and best wishes.
