Goddamn...

God went down to the earth
Just to have a look
Hadn't been since Jesus' birth
Been writing his new book

Said to himself; “It's been awhile”
Thought about what to wear
“I wonder what's now in style?”
Brushed his teeth and combed his hair

Yes, there was his deep, blue sky
His trees of green and brown
But wait; What's this in his eye?
Smog I think; He frowns

What the Hell have they done?
It's not to be like this
Supposed to be about having fun
Free love and all that bliss

I thought those mighty rumbles
Was just my weather going on
No, it's political jumbles
Wars; and those were bombs!

They've fucked up all my glaciers
Melted them to drink
Turned my deserts into living land
Made my lakes and rivers stink

“God particles” were just for me
To do with as I chose
They want to know, just want to see?
Better stop, before it blows!

I know I said to multiply...
But this is all too much
My rabbits live short lives and die
Eating grass and such

How many people are there?
I don't really know
Must be as many as I have hairs
I guess some have got to go

Let's see, I've done the flood before
Maybe fire should be next
I just don't know anymore
Well, there's driving while you text

An asteroid would do the trick
No, that was dinosaurs
I could make disease, make them sick
Have blood come out their pores

Where the hell is Satan?
He's supposed to run this show
Oh, my head is achin'
What's going on, I want to know?

I said; You can make things trying
Not, ruin what I've made
My planet here, is dying
Can't save it with first-aid!

I'm right here, “Boss”, I'm working!
Well, maybe dancing is the word
How ya like this move? It's Twerking!
Come on, get into the groove!

Satan; stop this bullshit!
You're fucking things all up!
What “Boss”? I didn't do it!
Sit down and have a cup

You see, I thought; I'd give them greed
Let them have life's pleasures
Give them more than they need
A bit of envy for good measure

You said that I could have free-rein
Pull their strings bit
It's up to them to abstain
That's why your world is shit!

Some got it good, in every way
Some a whole lot less
“Yeah, I hear it everyday”
“God; why ain't I blessed?”

“I guess that they don't understand”
“Fruitful” ain't just sex
It means that they should turn their hand
To work this day and next

“Satan, my fallen angel”
I guess you're working hard
Continue to finagle
Just don't fuck up my yard!

But “Boss” you can make another
For you it is a snap
I know it is a bother
But if you just take a nap...

If you'd listened; made them love you
The way I'd told you so
There 'd be nothing here to do
But you... you just said no

I'll help you build another Earth
Make them all one skin
There's no need for immaculate birth
Or a mortal sin

Let's just make them all the same
No ego and no pride
They won't take your name in vain
And they'll be on your side

“I guess that you are right “old chap
Let's burn this fucking place
I think I'll take a little nap...
Then get rid of this disgrace!”

Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?

Just thinking about what a conversation between God and Satan might be like

Epic, a lot to read.
this IS some conversation of two who are ruining it all. One is a hippie the over government.
You've capture the feeling of our times today. I don't believe in God, but I think you have showed mankind for what they are the two extremes of a coin.
GOOD JOB!

LIFE ISN'T ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORM TO PASS
IT'S ABOUT LEARNING HOW TO DANCE IN THE RAIN.

Yes, this is a sign of our times and the times of our fathers and their fathers etc...
This is not meant to convince anyone of any deity or of our beginnings. It is just meant to express the idea that we are ruining our world. Thanks for the read and comment, ~ Gee

Those who set things up for us must be spinning in their graves. The ol' free will thing assumes Thoughtful free will and there are too many now for whom thinking is a foreign concept........stan

the "Me First Generation'. Far too many think only of what they want and how to get it. The more that they have, the more that they want. This is why the world is in such bad shape. I heard someone say; "Why should I care if all our resources are gone in a generation or two?" I'll be gone by then and it won't matter to me! Thanks for the read and comment, ~ Gee

A perfect illustration of today's human being, captured in a poem. Great work. Regards Roscoe...

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

I didn't have to wonder too much about how you view religion. I'm glad that I reached you at another level. The one that puts the damages squarely on us as a species. Thanks, I needed that! ~ Gee

because it goes along rhyming and that
which I do like...
subject matter is good
the sixties had so many young whom would
stand with the older on subjeckt matters
and they did some good..they did clean
rivers and work on pollution etc
the new world order as
power shifts to the cheaper slave mentality
as its always been rather then plunder
which kind of is going on in the far east
the oil and strategic positioning by having
control of hills...valleys ports...same
old song and dance for evah..

Funny characterization of God the patriach
figure...the old testament he was a genuine
ass kicker
satan..as beautiful as he is and poor old man
giving in...in a way this is hell in certian parts
....like burning ash..
littering the land....till one day it will all smoulder
with its damnation
need a tin umbrella
to go to starbucks

great job!

have read the Bible and many other religious scripts. I kind of liked the old God too. He said what he meant and meant what he said! Like any good novel, the Bible is full of man's foibles; greed, envy,
murder and mayhem. Imagine! A novel that is written throughout a thousand years! Copied and re-copied spoken and re-spoken [ when the people could not write ]. how many mistakes and deliberate
twistings of the script were made? I have my own theories about who and what the gods were, but...
Anyways, I'm glad that it struck you on a couple of different levels. Glad you thought it funny, Gee

Really good Geezer. Well rhymed and what a great story you told. I liked the themes you covered and god and the devil speaking on friendly terms. I also enjoyed the juxtaposition of old and new ideas, it works very well in your poem.
This verse is particularly relevant to modern life.

You see, I thought; I'd give them greed
Let them have life's pleasures
Give them more than they need
A bit of envy for good measure

Give and grow - let's raise our verses together. I'm happy to comment on your work and appreciate a comment on mine.

I figure that if there is a 'God', he will be timeless; the message will be pretty much the same. ~ Geez.

Great reading this again, but maybe i feel a little more anxious now. The greedy and corrupt still cling to power, doing very little as our planet burns. Regards Roscoe...

I have even more reason now, to think that we are on the eve of destruction. I guess the only thing to do, is to hang on for the rest of the ride. Thanks for your always welcome comments. ~ Geez.
