FREEDOM WAKENS
Where now the eagle who guards our land?
For far too long we've missed your patrol,
the political class is out of hand.
There's nothing they would not control.
The sound of rapid rolling from Jefferson's grave
over freedoms' slow sure decay
as we all become the government's slave.
Even speech's freedom shows severe fray.
Watch what you say, speak carefully,
Here's a list of words you dare not say.
This ain't what it means to be free,
(They've even decided that we shouldn't pray.)
Our laws never detailed a political class
living their lives on taxpayers' teat.
With each useless law they decide to pass
our freedoms go farther into retreat.
What's that? Do I hear an approaching shriek.
From the throats wherein freedoms still burn?
Or is it from that returning eagle's beak.
Beware federal tyrants of eagle's return.

The government wants to control us all, that's why there are so many on the Social Services rolls.

I like this a lot, you can be a ardent revolutionary at times. A little while back when the signs of what was happening were clear to me, a wrote a poem called "Concrete Fences" which kind of mirrors what you wrote. I am pleased that you are flying with the Eagle of freedom. Which I totally agree with, thanks for sharing your thoughts of a serious topic for all American. Only we can change the course of history as our forefathers once did. Revolt, Revolt!!

I remember your poem and it's gist if not particular stanzas. (Blame my senility not your poem lol). It's a good thing the founders put in place a system by which we can have a revolution every 2 years if needed. The only problem is the assumed the electorate would be informed and I fear it might not be. "Time to elect a woman president" is Not a good reason to vote for Hillary just because she Is a woman.............stan

i recall when the 2 major parties had their differences but they came together on compromises when something needed doing. Now the democrats have gone bat crap crazy toward the left and the republicans are letting the extremists in their own party determine their direction. Plus there are WAY too many people who are holding political offices of some type for their entire lives and thus have no idea how most people live. It is very scary to Me. My real worrying began when that idiot Obama got re-elected. That made it apparent that far too many voters weren't paying attention...........end of rant lol. Hope you get some rest and get to feeling a bit better.......stan

What freedoms have been taken away from you?
You are free to have unlimited guns and pornography, and free to masturbate to them.
You are free to hear a president who makes up stuff and lies 4 times a sentence.
You are free to go wherever you want, whenever you want.
You are free to pray, but I ask the freedom to not be part of it. Freedom of religion and freedom FROM religion can co-exist.
True, you are no longer free to commemorate statues of the civil war which basically was fought for the "freedom" to enslave other human beings. O that damn bill of rights!
You are free not to accept socialized medical care (Medicare) and die in the streets. Or, as they say on Fox news, keep the damn government out of my medicare.
You are free not to participate in Social Security and die penniless.
You are free to go to any college you can, if you can afford it, unlike other totalitarian countries in Europe where college is "free"
You are free to say whatever vomit comes out of your mouth like Alex Jones, on radio.
You are free to market Opiods that killed 72,000 people last year.

WTF is bothering you? You worried about a transgender in the bathroom? Do immigrants scare you
as they clean the toilets and mop the floors, while .03 per cent of violent crime is caused by them.
There is always corruption, hypocracy, and problems with government, as we are the governement and we are imperfect beings. But your poem raise red flags about nothing. What "regulations" have effected your life? That we should use smoke detectors? That people mioniter our food supply for safety? Where is this panic coming from? We are all free.
Only the bullies of fascism, the ones who hate the free press, the ones who are absorbed in tribal rasicms, the ones who would actually wear a t shirt saying "I'd rather be a russian than a democrat" ,
are the ones you are talking to. Not to me.

I never said I was talking about you. So why the personal offense? It would be nice to still be able to identify with a conservative party and be free to eat where I choose or go where I choose without the brown shirt segment of the democrats party screaming at or attacking me.It would be nice to see ANTIFA declared a terrorist org which is what they are It would be nice if a 3 month old fetus had the basic right to life. It would be nice to live in a southern border state without having to worry about violence committed by illegal aliens. And yes. it would be nice to be assured that my girl grandchild could go to a rest room without worrying if a man who "identifies" as a woman is in there. It would be nice to once again have a DOJ, FBI and IRS which didn't target people based on politics.It would be nice if teachers at all levels didn't push their politics on impressionable captive audiences. It would be nice to have freedom OF religion instead of freedom From religion. (btw the constitution NEVER guarantees freedom from religion. Regulations that affect my life? Being a builder it would be nice if regulations didn't change from year to year without notice.It would be nice if so many dems didn't want to confiscate legal weapons. It would be nice if the dems accepted the results of the past election like they SAID they would.........It would also be most excellent to not have so many wild eyed radicals assume that just because I'm from the south that I'm stupid and racist

but no problem. History is progress, in the end progress will win. Slowly, surely since we came out of the caves and slime.
I can't argue, it's like trying to get a word in on Tucker Carlson. our bubble, not mine.
But I am surprised the right has such a view of the FBI and DOJ, traditionally and still conservative republicans NOT your "bleeding heart liberals" That is pure propaganda. And it's not that we don't accept Trump is President, we just notice he's a bumbling psychopath and dangerous and really must be controlled. Personally, I'd prefer him to Pence to finish the term. That's how bad he is.
I am a history nut and know the writing of Jefferson and especially Adams, and freedom FROM religion was a hot topic among them in that early age of the enlightenment. It did not have to be mentioned, it is inherent in the document.
Teachers are prompted to teach facts, science, and public responsibility of citizenship and the history of our country. That's because they are generally educated, unlike most who attend Trump rallies, who believe he will make ice cream rain from the skies.
You and I should live long enough to see how history will view this time. Clearly, it is off to a very poor start.

Easily refute most of what you just said but this is not a political site it's a poetry site. Plus we are neither going to change the other's politics so why get into a fight over it. You know, we both lived through the 60s and 70s but I think our country is more polarized now than then....
