The Fall of a Legendary Gunfighter

There once
was a gunfighter

He was
known throughout
the land

People knew
of his
exploits
far and wide

Now he is
standing
stock still

His eyes
on his challenger

Hands at
his sides
ready to grab
his six shooter
in a split second

Hands pulsating
waiting to feel
the grips
of his guns

Sweat coming off
his brow

His long coat
fluttering
in the wind

And waiting for
the clock tower
to chime
high noon

Thinking about
all his
past fights

And maybe that
this will be
his last

Finally
the tower chimes

And two shots
ring out

After
the smoke
clears

The gunfighter
laying
on the ground
with his gun
next to him

A wet
red spot
on his chest
where the
bullet entered

Blood soaking
his shirt like
water soaking
a sponge

The gunfighter
is no more

Even though now
he is destined
for the graveyard

People will still
talk about him
and his exploits

He has become
a legend
among gunfighters

Starters, interesting storyline. Brings to mind movies of the Wild Wild West days
when gunslinging was the order of the day. I see that you're a military enthusiast
if not a military man. lol.

Your title is great, leads the poem from start to finish. The language is not complicated.
The wording is simple to understand.

great storyline.

respects.

What I love most about POETS is how they write SADNESS with SUNSHINE on their face, caption RAIN with FALLEN EMBERS and paint TEARS using the colours of WATERFALLS:lol

Thank you for the comment WonderGolly. It is greatly appreciated. This poem was actually inspired by a Bob Dylan song (Knocking on Heavens Door).
