Failed

So deep within the galaxies,
The limits of my searching mind,
Your constant love had once installed
A compass of the truest kind.

It should have been the polar star,
The guide on my oft chancy quest.
I knew that, as I traveled far,
Your loving thoughts would guide me best.

They flamed as though they were a torch,
A beacon meant to guide my heart
Into that peaceful port--that’s you--
But, somehow, we then grew apart.

How was it then, that I had failed
To keep our rendezvous somewhere
In life? Throughout the time that passed,
You never failed; you’ve done your share.

My health and youth waned all too soon
And worldly fortune took to flight;
The truth is that I failed myself
When I refused to heed your light.

I guess that a new perspective makes for a different outlook. I like the rhyme, it makes it feel kind of fuzzy warm. ~ Geezer.

It seems to work either way, but I'll think about it. Happy New Year. Van, aka Jerry
