Dream Critters

Ice picks of light
scatter goofy dream critters as they
scoot back down
underground
to continue undermining
my precarious reality.

They are cute as hell, figments
of fascination,
shyly appearing only after
day lids are securely shut
and the depth of dark becomes unfathomable.

Harmless little varmints, they seem,
but are voracious, insatiable root eaters
gnawing vigorously at the raw under-pinnings of the official Me.

Mind engineers are baffled.
Exterminators just laugh.
Freudian analysts simply throw up their hands.

And I am kind of glad.

Now, I can finally retire,
gracefully,
to my favorite place,
where flurries of free range critters
scurry and roam;
...A Homey Island Of The MInd.

The projections for eventual over-population are still unknown.

But, this I do know;

when I go,
I will go down...giggling!

Free verse
Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Last few words:
this is not real, just a fictional hypothesis of a man living alone, giving in to the idea of possibly losing his mind ..and not judging, but willing to take the journey, almost convinced that it need not be terrifying.

Remember the song:
'they're coming to take me away ha ha
theyre coming to take me away ho ho
hee hee ha ha
to the funny farm
where life is beautiful all the time
and I'll be happy.....' ?

Have to say, I don't think you really needed to explain yourself (as in your 'last few words' comment) .... I think the poem speaks for itself....

It put a grin on my face anyway

'Each for the joy of the working, and each, in his separate star,
shall draw the Thing as he sees It, for the God of Things as They are.'
(Rudyard Kipling)

yes, I remember the song...at least 'they're coming to take me away' part.

once again, leaving stuff out!

will I ever learn when talking or writing, or whatever, to be more concise and stop going on,and on, about things already said before, and it not being necessary to repeat over and over again the same things when every one is gawking at me to finally finish the thought that i started with but never seem to get to the point !!!

grins are good!

thanks Judy
