Colonial Cur:

It lay curled at the feet of its masters
Eagerly barking or biting on cue
No sense of its past or its ancestors
Gorging tiny scraps that were its true due

With the Sun setting on its patronage
Whimpering cur was lost and left behind
It whined and wailed in its sad, lonely stage
Deserted by masters, shunned by its kind

This is a very powerful poem;
This is a very powerful poem; and its power is the clarity in which it portrays a historical event. I once read that simplicity is a sign of genius because it can condense the complicated to simple terms.

I am impressed, that so much is said in so few words, and with such powerful images! .
