Collecting Scraps of Wealth

It takes five broken cameras
to tell the story in pictures.
No one can hide the truth
by building a wall around it,
It takes one look into
a child's eyes to see the laughter
and the tears, to hear the
geese honking goodbye into the
silent winter of your heart.

In the hovel of all hovels of their
ancestry, caught inside the rubble of your holy war,
children play;
somewhere near a toxic
garbage dump, collecting scraps
of wealth,
or near unexploded cluster bombs
the children play
until they become
broken toys,
unable to tell their story.

For some reason the line that stood out most in this poem "no one can hide the truth by building a wall around it" I love that line.

John

It is there in the Middle East and Africa and I wish I could say that it was here with us , You in the USA and me here in the UK, hell we have children homeless and not eating proper food and people living on the streets, aids swept under the nearest carpet etc: and here we are being so good to other Countries.
Oh it is so good to be able to send £800 million to India in aid to allow us to borrow more money, when they don't use it for what it was sent for.
They have Atomic weapons for Gods sake, the middle east has money dripping out of each oil well.
Yet we forget our own people, there is a word for it, but can't think of it at the moment,
Cleveland Peace Action/Middle East, why is it not called:- "Help The POOR in the great USA"
We have the same problem here, I think we need a new Broom here to clean our own house up first,
Yours without any bad feelings to yourself just the way thing are,
Ian.T
PS:-Anna I watched the five cameras, and I know what goes on there in Israel and what they do to other people.
WHY does the American government support them?
Why does United Nations (That's a laugh for a start United what) allow them to walk all over anything they want????
MONEY MONEY MONEY and a fear that the Jewish people in America will be offended, Sorry the inequality in that area makes me sick..

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

you are way too intelligent to be
amidst Neopoets
who serve like autumn leaves
collecting the rays of suns in summer poems
and catch the lovely chilly breeze
and admire the sunset
far in the distant horizon
across the blue wavy seas
and
admire themselves in superficial garb
being the ilustrous poets of yore
who love to be read as none ever was before
and
get singled out like me
as you did ...

Hi u2. Yes. All good questions. I'm quite busy on facebook (now replacing my internet groups) lending myself to the eternal hard questions. One of which is politics as usual and the other is that we are world citizens. Children are less *favoured* in America than animals. There's always some kind of petition (which I sign) for the treatment of animals. But we have a whole party (GOP) that, while, taking doing everything possible to undermine a woman's right to choose, doesn't give a fig about what happens to that child after s/he is born. There's a great picture I'll post if I can find it again. And you know that for me, the Palestinian occupation and Israel's ceaseless victim mentality (giving them the *RIGHT and JUSTIFICATION* for all acts that are contrary to The UNITED NATIONS' UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS) is symbolic of what is wrong with the world. .The United States, being its big sister, so to speak, pays lip service to human rights.

However, i also try to focus on what is right with both countries. Their people, by and large.

poets can pick up guns and fly planes to kill in wars
describe conditions

Children...I still say that its because they have no voting
power yet..that they are not included in what goes on
in the power level of how a society functions
In cults and dictatorships its more evil and much worse

if one was sentence to do hard time via time machine
as a mere child...I would pick the industrial revolution
over a cult or dicatorship any day

even with wealth and a good community to start in
the numerical odds and chances of making it to adulthood
have to be run

compound that by war
and day to day living becomes just that
exterminations are very intensive and labour
involved

the small warring parties in europe
the genocides in their forms are atrocities
flowers cannot stop wars
billionaires cannot buy peace
the fundemental hate is what drives
it not passion...Passion for freedom
locked side by side like neighbours
stewing for years

pretty much describes the ghettos
everywhere..
no one leaves because its the land
issue...even in war people procreate

Rome took down a lot of land and
people and they got over run
by a way of fighting that found all
their weaknesses and by the
mass hordes that got hungry for
their land and wealth and caught
them up in lengthy battles that
burned up their supplies at home

positions too... I will supply you
with technical abilities to run
your pocket battles if I can park
my missles and my ears on a
hilltop

the old chess metaphor
but its very important
and as long as I can shoot
up the neighbour land that
will keep out anyone trying
to set up anything there

what war stops to let the
children get away safe?

none that I know of

poets can just write
put on events to draw
awareness

who wants to be over run?
the drive to exist is so high

kids grow up to be eligible
soldiers
so backing a system that
promotes righ to t life over
control of her body
is political..I dont think its even
so much religious
unless the churchs are
funding orphanages where
they can raise these children
with the church upbringing
that ordinary society seems
to be slipping from

wait a minute.. DIdnt we indians
call these Residential schools??

always good to read you Kailashana
I dont like war
but I dont think its going to go away
any day soon
