Brother Mine

You snuffed that God given gift of flame
One cut and all was over
Blood ran, life force drained, you ended it all
Death took you voluntarily, in his dark embrace

Covering you with his cloak,
Whisking you away, to the dark
Have you finally found peace?
Does your soul now roam free?

Brother mine, you broke me
In your constant bid to be free
Brother mine, you left me
With turmoil in your wake

Answers that will never see the light of day
Guilt devours each memory of you
With your voice now silent
You spoke volumes in death

What were you hoping to achieve?
Where were you hoping your journey would end?
What answers did you think you would receive?
What fences had you failed to amend?

Brother mine, don’t you know?
Did you never see or comprehend?
Brother mine, did you not hear?
Redemption was always yours

One moment, one touch, one word
Would that have been enough to sustain you?
One soul to another, one anchor to hold you
Would this have been sufficient to keep you

Your last thoughts lost to the void
Your last breath, lone in the night
You simply gave up, refused to fight
Black. Lost. Darkness engulfed your soul.

Brother mine, wherever you may now be
For you to be finally free is my deepest hope
Brother mine, whoever you may now be
To me, you will always be Brother mine

After reading your poem and "Last Few Words" I will say that writing this has made all thoughts..emotions questions come out...i pray that they reach the soul of your dear broher...this is truly an honest and profound recital.....

I would like to share the words of one of India's renowned scholar and philosopher Late Swami Vivekanand

"death is not extinguishing the light, it is merely closing the lamp because there is a new dawn"

Thank you for the feedback.

I don't know if these will reach him, I can only hope.....

Regarding the wise words of the Late Swami Vivekanand - Do these pertain to one whose death was by choice and not circumstance? (All sorts of questions come to mind with that one line......and again. The hope is there.)

Thank you gain.

Hi again Feebie

I appreciate the question raised by you ...honestly I don't know if Swami Vivekananda mentioned the circumstances of death in the context of what he said about it....but I hope it applies to any cause of death because ultimately as he said "it is closing of the lamp" which is the effect...

be well..

Hi Once more Raj,

yes, I suppose the closing of the lamp line is quite apt and effective.

Therein yet lies the hope for all those gone before us and those still to move on that there is that something more out there.

In some form that the "lamp" does not entirely close, yet moves and evolves and thrives in some new form or existence. Don't quite know if that makes any sense.....it did in my head at the time i replied ;-)

thank you again.

You have said

after perusing about it i think in some way you are right ...if that lamp evolves into another source of light to guide those left behind in their mortal journey....

The flame flickers and is then gone, but believe that the light shines on.
There are many things we cant understand, just believe in those things you can.
We are Spiritualists here and many of our family have left to journey on, it matters not what mode of transport they take, they still walk with us.
We can only hold our memories sacred and there in the universe a new light shines, and we will all understand one day the things we have been through.
I cannot feel as you do, but can understand that we all have to travel this pathway in our own way and it is us that decides the route to take.
I have just lost a Sister and Brother, now we are just two out of ten, a curse of growing old.
I hope very much that you will talk to us if you need and not let things build up too much.
Take care of you and the write was excellent and must have been so hard..
Yours as always Ian..xx
