Beyond The Event Horizon

I know it hurts,
I know,
for the bitterness
and pain are real,
the betrayal of
your own flesh and blood
becomes a fury
and a desperation
that leaves you
without a breath of hope
or future

But there is one
out beyond
the narrowness
of infirmity
your life has endured,
after all the surgery
and bed-rest are gone;

on the far side
of recuperation
lies a land
of hope and courage
that shouts defiance
at this killer world,

and greets you with
the open joy
of sunlight on your face,
a strengthening endurance,
the taste of lover's kiss,
touch new-found,
and the certainty
of friends who care.

I like the drama, ( who can endure betrayal from their own flesh and blood )
analogy, ( your life has endured, after all the surgery and bed-rest are gone; )
encouragement - ( the third stanza )
and finally the positivity in the last stanza which shines like the brightness of the sun.

Many would take courage from this well thought out poem!

One typo: Me thinks!

the betrayal of
"you" ( your ) own flesh and blood

Thanks. It's for someone I know who's been havinga rough time lately.

That light at the end of the tunnel a grand reflection of the future for someone who is suffering with either illness or just bad luck in many ways.
Our dear Jayne has been so very ill and is really down as she has little support out there in Aussie, I think she will love this one.
It is also a good read for those that suffer loss in many ways where the horizon is beaut and though not seen at the time will bring healing to all,

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

Yeah, Jayne's in a bad way, I wish I could contact her.
Glad you enjoyed this one, it's the first I could do in a considerable amount of time. I didn't really have the time, truth be told, but When I spoke to Jayne last time I just felt I had to write something, to cheer myself up, if nothing else. I've been in that place of loneliness and despair more than once, and knowing it ends with hope is a precious thing.
Thanks Ian.

You are a more courageous man than I. Before I read the comments, I thought it had a too strong touch of reality that was mildly disturbing. That's probably the best compliment I could offer.
I have an acquaintance who is dying in a hospital from injuries sustained on a horse. I couldn't write a poem about it to save my soul.

Just because I do this: you're missing an "r".

you(r) own flesh and blood

I think that the best poetry comes from, or is at least inspired by, real life events!

When one stares into the abyss, if one stares long enough, there is a light which grows in its heart which is the other side of the bad times. I hope Jayne reads this poem.........stan

I hope she does, as well.
