Bed of Darkness

I have had
so many awakenings
the glint of sunlight
on black stone
colorful fabric unfurling
in the wind
on sea or
backyard clothesline
the lively caw
of a quick-
eyed crow
and the rooftop
it flies from
somebody’s phrase
like a key
unlocking a door
in my soul
and yet my soul
climbs back
into the bed of darkness

Loved this. Being Antipodean, it had an almost Australian feel to me in terms of imagery, like Bruce Dawe or later Australian poets, and i had to check your profile to see! The image of the crow is great: "the lively caw
of a quick-
eyed crow"

You mention you like Heaney , have you also read Ted Hughes "Crow" Highly recommended - again images in your work, muscular aspect of nature and change are redolent of his work.

Very much enjoyed.

Cheers.

Chris.

thanks Chris! I ordered the Crow from amazon just now! looks rich. and I love allegory, especially when its experimental and epic like Hughes' work looks. appreciate your encouraging words and look forward to checking out your poetry.
