B And E

The same night once a year, someone breaks into my house

I have tried to catch him, but he is sneaky as a church mouse

I try to stay awake to see him, try as I might, but I never do

He doesn't just break into my house but my neighbor's houses too

They say he wears a red suit has a long white beard like a coot

He is said to carry a big bag stuffed with all kinds of loot

Once I set a trap for him of cookies and milk inside a glass

Almost caught him that year, but he was way way too fast

This year I will catch him; just wait, and you will see

When I do, I will have him arrested for B and E

one of those poems that I look forward to hearing every year!
I think that with added drama and acting, this could be a kiddie's favorite!
Of course, you might have to explain what B&E means, but I would just say;
Breaking into my house, there's cop-talk for that kind of thing: Hey, book him
on B and E charges, Danno!
I know that my nieces and nephews loved that kind of thing as bed-time stories.
[My sister had to limit stories time to give them a while to quiet down],
and a couple of times I almost got thrown out before the story was finished.
You made me smile with this after a hard day; I needed this, thanks! ~ Geezer.
