On and On...

I cried this day
When the air that is free
Would not fill my lungs
Could not carry me

I sat on the throne
Barely able to breathe
Seat of what's left
Tried to take ease

Accepting the blame
Not liking it though
Taking on Death
But, “Damn, I'm so slow!”

Sunshine is warm
The sky is so blue
I've still some fight left
Yes, I'm promising you!

this piece seems to be about a struggle to survive but I don't really understand the first 2 lines of the 3rd stanza. Blame? What are you blame of? Perhaps you can explain further in the poem.
Just my own point of view. Its still a good poem, though

your comments, I thought about what you said for awhile. Then I read the next comments from Wesley and thought some more. Then I read the comments from Ian and He got it in one! Then you answered your own question by saying that people often abuse their bodies which causes then to have problems. I have used and abused my body by using drugs and alcohol when I was younger and by being foolishly secure in the knowledge that I was invincible and doing things that caused me to have life-threatening accidents. So, yes I reluctantly accept the blame for my condition now.
I will look this poem over in awhile, to see if maybe I can make it a little bit clearer. Thanks for the input. ~ Gee

Am just sitting here thinking how do I get up, and how true your words are.
Maybe the other two poets aren't old enough yet to understand.
Taking the blame, an inward thought of becoming old, and blaming ones self on reaching that state.
Loved the write and can equate with all of it lol,
Take it easy old man, we will accept the blame for anything.

but getting old is not really something we can prevent. Its part of nature, just a process which is neither right nor wrong. Its not the same as becoming weak because you don't have to be old to be weak. People abuse themselves by doing things that could harm their bodies, thus weakening themselves. At least, that's what I think.

Age is a thing that creeps up on most people and one day you look in the mirror and see reality.
Then as usual there is blame to apportion no matter what the world says.
Gee replied about not looking after his frame and other contributing factors, then a regret comes in but ask if one of those things would have been changed at that time the answer is NO.
There are many poems about walking into that state with many differing thoughts, we should I know be happy that we have arrived at our respective ages, but try telling us that lol.
I played field Hockey for 23 years and travelled far, sometimes without thinking of this now I am in, but as most will say a good life.
You take care and I know you have health problems but we will blame someone else for those later Eh!
Or that the medical system is not good enough, someone must take the blame, Yours Ian

said to Alid and Wes; I have accepted that my health would be a lot better if I had not chosen the kind of life I have led. I see other people that are as old and older than me and they are running marathons, businesses and playing basketball. Me, I can barely make it to my car some days and have to wait until my hearts slows and my breath comes back before I can drive away. I'm mad at myself! Yet, what is done is done and nothing will change what is done. I have resolved to fight every step of the way and will do the best I can in chasing my granddaughters around the hall and hope to see my newest grandson catch his first fish. ~ Gee

And of course you see the problem in this.
Explanations are not appropriate for poetry. The poem should stand on its own. No explanation allowed.

That's one perspective.

"When a poem is being read it is not the poet being judged, but rather the reader". (I don't remember the author's name).
Poets regularly use the names and tales of the Greek Gods to make points. I know a fair amount of those tales, so they make sense in poetry to me. However, not everyone knows (or cares) about these allusions.
Tough shit.
The poet writes for his understanding. If a reader understands, all the better, but not necessary.
Better poem. Mess with it.

In my youth I played football and ran track both of which are hard on the body. then I took on building and abused it even more, right up to the point of breaking bones from being careless. The nagging injuries lead to being unable to exercise as i was used to which led to weight gain. all these thing accrued until now the debts are due. Old age sucks for people who lived hard.........BTW liked and identified with the poem........stan

I wasn't sure after reading the comments. if I got my message across. I guess that the old saw about youth being wasted on the young is true. Oh well, then was then and now is now. Only thing to do now, is to make the best of it. I'm glad that you liked the poem and could identify with it. It makes me feel like I connected with someone. ~ Gee

sorry to here that, Stan. Some mistakes do haunt us through time. I have a few of them myself, so I know how it feels.
