4.3

A shudder across Chianti
Quivering were the trees
Not to mention my house
And me
My ears were pounding
A siren so strange, no tune

My beautiful vintage collection
Of glasses
Swaying and chin, chinning
Was almost like a crowd of ghost
Were in the cupboard having a party
At my expense

It terrified me so much
The next day I went out
And bought myself
A magnificent pine dining table
Somewhere to hide under next time.

a 4.3 earthquake in the Chianti area, yes? A solid pine table, long and wide enough, will offer adequate protection for one person. But what about husband and child? Are they dispensable? I happen to know that minor quakes aren't uncommon in the area. I have a lovely collection of glassware as well, also Dresden ceramics . . . . Take care of your precious belongings. Your signore, Jerry

This is a bit of a teaser, I was being furba as they say here, in my little skit I have taken advantage of a situation, and managed to buy my dream dining table that sits 12 people, actually there was quite a nasty quake in in 2015 it was a bit scary but of course I didn't run out and buy furniture of my dreams as an excuse. Thanks for popping by Sir.

Thank you...Teddy

makes for a good hiding place. It's sturdy and cheap. And if it doesn't protect you well enough, they can always alter it to make a pine box. Hope you don't ever need it. I liked your description of the ghosts having a party in the cupboard; although if you lost many pieces, I feel bad for you. Nice write. ~ Geez.

Pine furniture is really expensive where I live so it's a luxury item. lol
I was making fun of myself in a crisis go shopping any excuse will do to buy the dining table of my dreams, but of course I am just mocking myself as I wouldn't really buy posh furniture on an excuse of an earthquake! Thanks so much for popping by I know you are busy . Read it to your wife as this is a women's poem. She may well get my plot. "Wink"
Ps thanks for liking the ghosts, it does sound like that though, do you get earthquakes?

Thank you...Teddy

a few tremors in my lifetime. We here, in the "Great Northeast" [as we call it] are very stable geologically. I guess Pine trees aren't very prevelant in your part of the world, huh? In that case, you would love where I live. We have an abundance of all manner of trees, and great Pine forests. I live just an hour or so away from the Adirondac Forest Preserve where it is mainly Pines and some are as tall as eighty feet or more. There are Pines all around this area and there is a small park about a half-mile from my house, where there are some as tall. We lost some a few years ago, with a little tornado that passed through the area. I'm never too busy to stop by and read one of your poems. Take care, ~ Geez.

I would love where you live, my boss is 3 hours drive from NYC so I've seen in photos. I've only truly ever felt one shake it's very rare here, my surroundings are also filled with pine trees and Cyprus trees, I guess we all have the surrounding beauty, I used to love the city of London too.

that's what I get for not watching the news, but no news is good news, in particular when it comes to earthquakes. Congratulations on your new table, etc.; does that mean this old caballero won't have to eat off the floor when he pays you a visit? Thanks for the clarification, Teddy.

I didn't really buy anything. Actually this was more for the ladies who will probably get my cheeky side, so glad your here though! It's a women thing, not me some of my friends though, would find an advantage in spending thousands of euros the day after a small quake!

Thank you...Teddy
