"Naked Emotion, Truth and Originality" more concepts please

We are in the final stage where everyone suggests an emotion, an idea and a form and someone else in the workshop writes a poem based on those suggestions. Quite a challenge! And still time to join.

How do we express powerful emotions with falling into sentimentality? How can we communicate an importunate truth without lapsing into slogans and clichés? What is originality and how do we know when we have strayed into derivative, rehashed, or imitative writing?

This workshop will feature a discussion leading to each participant choosing a set of emotions and/or ideas they want to express and a strategy for communicating them in an original way.

Stage one, a general discussion about the effective and ineffective ways of writing emotions and ideas in an original way.

Stage two, we’ll talk about things we want to express and difficulties we have had expressing them in the past, citing a specific poem and we will give each other feedback with suggestions for overcoming those difficulties.

Stage three, we will each write a poem attempting to tackle these ideas/emotions in an original way, with little consideration for form or structure, except as it directly contributes to the idea/emotion/originality.

"Quoth said the Raven, NEVERMORE"

"Stage Two",
we’ll talk about things we want to express,
and difficulties we have had expressing them in the past,
citing a specific poem and we will give each other feedback
with suggestions for overcoming those difficulties.

Most poets write about their own life's situations.
The problems confronting their fears and life, makes writing quite hard.

I have usually asked if a particular poem is fact or fiction.
There are some delicate situations that need to be treated with care.

The poet should let others know if the subject is fact or fiction,
This would aid the critique to be directed in the correct way.
I shall have to find a poem of mine someplace that I had a problem with.

The most written of subjects has to be Love, and its many facets, where some never find it, or are battered by it, or where they just cruise in that joy of being.
I shall wait to see where we are going with this part, while I look for a poem of mine that has missed the mark, Yours Ian.T

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

an emotion, an idea and a suggestion for structure/form.

Fear--
Structure and form giving the poem the idea that something is taking over a person.
The feelings of self changing them to someone else.
This will be better in Free form it will give the poet more freedom.
