"I appreciate Moderate Criticism"

I have to admit, I don't even know what that means in a workshop environment except that I will not offer anything.

Why?

Because I have learned that I disagree on what moderate criticism is. I maintain that all criticism I offer is moderate. It is considered, it is about the work, it is centered on suggestions and ideas, and it is often perceived as an attack by those requesting moderate criticism.

So, "moderate criticism" means I do not offer any thoughts.

When folks request raw feedback, I perceive they are willing to have a free exchange of ideas. And although I never expect them to implement anything I suggest, I, at least, do not worry about being accused of personal attacks. My limited time cannot be expended in this way..

Other members may feel differently, and that's fine, participate as you find value. But, if you wonder why I do not comment on your work, it is, most likely, because of the experience i have garnered in the decade and more I have been a member.

I suggest everyone always request raw feedback. You need not take any of it, but you will remove a self-imposed obstacle to worthwhile critique.

Comments

OK, that's all right, you need not comment on mine. I'm good with no comments. When I see one of yours, I'll do as you prefer, no problem.
All the best.

And to prove the point, we have a blog post about a topic characterized as a personal attack.

Gracy, this is not about you, personally, this is about the workshop environment.

Hi again, Jonathan, I know it's not personal. Not sure which post you refer to.
