NO MORE LINCOLNS ?

Where have all the statesmen gone?
all we seem to have are politicians
party hacks who only see
as far as the next election

Their only love is keeping power
led by polls instead of moral compass
willing to cut any deal
..betray their office
...betray their constituents

Do anything

to stay on the public tit
one more year

No concern for country's good
(must look good for sound bites)
while passing the buck of blame
utterly lacking in courage
is this the best we have?

It has been a long, long time
since I have been able to vote FOR somebody
instead of against another

Surely somewhere out there
are men of principle
with enough love of country
to do what is right

Or have we made the election process such
as to drive the good men away
leaving us to the mercy
of only the power hungry?

a bit out of my element in style and topic

I can hardly ask others to go outside their comfort zones if I don't also try to do so every once and a while lol. Appreciate the visit.............stan

Politics can be a heavy subject and I think Jeffers tried it and succeeded where others failed but even to listen to his is quite lengthy and monologue like...You've taken a stab and come up with thoughtful things for us to read plus a little humor, it's a pretty good grasp of narrative free verse that could stand a little more 'show' than tell but considering the subject lol are we allowed to call our elected 'scum sucking fish'? lol

Political free verse is about as far from my norm as I could think of, so to say I did even ok is better than I expected lol. I did not want to get into too much "show" as that could lead to specifics which could then lead to a political fight which I did not want. If this just gets folks thinking about what process has devolved into, that is good enough for me. thanks for coming by and commenting..........stan
