IT DOES NOT MATTER ANYMORE

Even the dead deserve love
From those who held them dear
We bless the day they were born
And celebrate lives, well lived
Though it seems, what we do
Matters not to them anymore

The eyes that saw the departed
The ears that heard them sing
Corporal body, the visible link
Rot in lonely silent graves
Yet connected, soul to soul
It is hard not to matter anymore

Once a beloved queen of the sea
I recall the irresistible current
Flowing forth, drawing me to you
Longing to see your searching eyes
With you around me most of the time
These things mattered, but not anymore

A sudden fever, a headache at night
My body trembling for missing you
Realizing you would not come as assured
Made me feel little and unwanted
You come when I am no longer free
I can say this, it does not matter anymore

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?

Comments

Thank you for the compliment, I am glad you like the piece. You remain a source of inspiration to me. After reading your comments the first line of this untitled piece derived from it, brought the follow up lines into my head. Thank you and best wishes

the departed is forgotten in a distant memory
and all they held dear, gone with them
while we sit here, in a limbo of some sort
pondering on fate and what lies beyond

beyond the threshold we only imagine
the glories of paradise and torments of hell
while we struggle on the realities of today
erasing or writing on the sand of our time
